Title: Update on child Ukrainian visa fees Post by: Jeff on October 10, 2002, 04:00:00 AM I am about sick of the Ukrainian Consulate. I called them once a couple of months ago to find out how much to send for mine and my son's visa. They told me that mine was $65 and my son's application fee would be waived, but the visa fee, which was $40, was not, which would bring the total to $105 for both of us. Right before I sent the applications out, I went to double check the fees, but this part of their website didn't work. I tried several times to call, but never got an answer. Even emails to them went unreturned. I asked here and on Brama for advice, and everyone said the $105 figure was correct, so I sent it in. Today the applications were returned to me with a letter saying all visas for everyone under 16 are $65. This is such bullcrap. We are supposed to leave the first of November, and it's going to be cutting it close getting them back in time. With my luck, they will send them back again for some stupid reason.

I have read many reports over the years of difficulties with the Ukrainian consulates in New York and Chicago. I would suggest filing directly with the Embassy. I have never had a problem. Jeff, I had some of the same frustrations. They rejected my Visa app, never said why, and then AFTERWARDS they changed their web page to disallow what I did. The expedite fee is worth it, just so you have time to resubmit if needed. In a case of extreme emergency, contact TravelDocs in Washington DC. (http://www.traveldocs.com) They got my Visa for me in two days the first time. (Not counting fedex tim... so four days total) They are right there in DC and can walk it over if they need to... Jeff, without it costing anymore, you should have your visa back with-in 12 days of you sending it off, use overnight delivery to the Consulate and back to you of course. If you want the visa back with-in three days and are willing to pay a little extra, maybe $75 extra, forget the exact amount, then you have that route as an option. |
