Title: Question For Married Couples Traveling...
Post by: RickM on September 13, 2002, 04:00:00 AM
back to Russia or someone that has been through this before.

Here is my questions:
We are planning our first international trip since she arrived and we married to visit my wife's family in Russia for about a month.
My wife Galina got her green card here in US about 4 months ago. They stamped her passport also when she surrendered her EAD card.
Now,Galina still has a Kyrgyz passport with an international page inside of it.(It's my understanding that Russia has an agreement with former Russian citizens that now have valid CIS passports and lets them travel inside Russia with-out purchasing a Russian visa.)

As I see it,"techinically",Galina is "still" a Kyrgyz citizen with a valid passport for Kyrgyzstan good until year 2010.She never relinquished her Kyrgyz citizenship nor is there any stamp in her passport to that effect. She came here on a K-1 and we married and applyed for AOS,was approved and now she is a "conditional" US citizen based on her marraige to me a US citizen.Although she has a US greencard and stamp for it in her passport, will Russia let her inside with her Kyrgyz passport?

THE OTHER BIG QUESTION...
Galina's passport has her maiden name on it.Her greencard has her married name.(my last name)
What name do we make her plane tickets in???
If we put them in her maiden name to match her passport, then her air tickets will not match her greencard for re-entry to USA.
If the air tickets are put in her married name, then her air tickets will not match her Kyrgyz passport name....
HELP!!!!!!!!!

Rick,

Can't help you with the first question.  As to the second, when Marina has travelled to Ukraine, and returned to the US (twice), she had the tickets list her maiden (passport) name, and carried her original marriage certificate, listing both names, as backup.  Never had a problem re-entering the US.

Rick,
My wife traveled back to Russia last year under the same circumstances as you find your wife in now.  Although she is a Russian and not from any of the former Republics.  Her passport will get her into her homeland and her green card will get her back into the USA.  Have her ticket issued in both last names. (Galina )

Your wife is not a conditional citizen, she is a conditional permanent resident.

Can't help regarding transitting Russia.

Buy her ticket in her passport name and her married name by using her first name, her maiden last name as her middle name, and her married last name.  This way both last names are on the ticket.
