Hello to all of those who might remember a piece or two cut from Norwegian wood.

Lena and I are into the third year of our marriage and it has been and still is the best thing that happened in our lives.

Scaught wrote some days ago that it is now possible to rent a car in Kiev and explore the country your self. And Dan had a link to an article about Crimea as a tourist resort.
Since this was our third summer driving there with my own car, I just wanted to drop in with a few words about exploring Ukraine by car on your own.

Especially The Crimean coast from Alustha to Feodosia. Highly recommended. Take a look at the pictures and decide for yourself. If you have the slightest remnants from our exploring ancestors in your blood you will have the time of your life. A trip you and your woman will savour in your minds forever.

About driving there is nothing to worry about. Use your head and be careful, same as everywhere else.
The police have stopped me for all kinds of traffic violations tens of times during the three last summers. An expensive car with foreign plates has a magnetic effect on these guys. Even so they are almost always friendly and to this date I haven’t paid a single dollar of their fines. I tell my wife to keep her mouth shut and shake her head if asked and let me do the talking. I pretend to not understand a single word of what they are telling me. We will then switch to some sort of finger language. I make some small jokes that are easily understood to make them smile along with me. They will proceed to the papers for my car which are closely scrutinised and then try to explain to me that I have been driving to fast or whatever. Next is the universally understood dollar sign. I make it clear that I understand their request and show them my Visa card with a big smile. After some confusion they get frustrated about the situation, gives back the papers to me and tell me not to violate their rules again. Works every time, even though there have been some funny situations once in a while.
