Title: Is there some way to check K-1 status??
Post by: Oscar on July 25, 2002, 04:00:00 AM
The INS received my K-1 petition 6 weeks ago now (man! The time is flying!) and I just wanted to know if there is a way to check on any status etc..
When I got my NOA that they had received my application (a week after I sent it), there was no file number or anything to track.
Do I just have to wait to hear anything more or is there any way to check the status of things??  Nebraska center by the way...

Thanks in advance!
Oscar

Nebraska is the slowest of them, which is what I went thru. For me I was approved June 13th or so, after waiting 63 days.

I've heard right now it's going about 70-85 days for processing, and the previous post reflects that.

relax, do other things, get the rest of your stuff in order. Don't check every day, as soon as you are accepted, you'll get teh letter within 3 days, seriously.

Good luck.

As I have said before, I am NOT dying or anything.  I think 63 days is very quick, perhaps it will be as short for us.  I already have all the rest of my stuff in order, the police report, divorce decree, birth certs, 1-134, etc., went with the petition..  Only thing she needs is her physical, so that should speed things up a bit.

I already called the automated number and put in my number.  All it says is that petitions are taking from 70-120 days, so it was really no help at all.

Later,
Oscar

I can definitely agree with you.  After reading tons of archives, and the gripping anticipation and frustration that everyone else has gone through in the past, I decided not to even THINK about this stage of the process.  What the heck, I'd rather pay $200-$300 a month for long distance than sweat waiting for hell to freeze over.  Writing a check is much easier.  I'm returning in mid-sept for a month anyway, so nobody's in a hurry, and we're really looking forward to me getting back there more than we are  getting her here.  It's really taken the bs edge off of the whole process.

Well, I was hoping to have my new wife and son here in time for him to start the school year...

It's going to be hard enough for him without having to start in the middle of the year, I think...

But... there's nothing that can be done now but wait...

Title: Mark- Have you sent in your petition yet?

Have you gotten all your papers from her and submitted yet?
Are you submitting everything or just the minimum?

I am thinking my girl should be here well before thanksgiving.  I am happy they will be here for the holidays..

Yes, it's away.

It's been in their hands for a couple of weeks now.

I submitted somewhere between the maximum and the minimum.

It was taking so long to get some things that I figured I was better off just sending it away as is. What is the point in saving a month's processing time if it takes a month to get the things to save it?

Anyway... that was my thinking...

Brian, Thanksgiving will be more than 5 months (5.5) from when the INS received my petition.  I certainly do expect they will be here by then..

Going through TX like me and... ahhh no way no how that's  gonna happen!  (well maybe?)  Initially I figured that if I had my new wife and son here by Christmas, I'd be doin great.  Then I decided that by using Russian Xmas dates, It'd probably be more realistic.

Rack up them phone bills!  The bigger the better!

lol!

Title: Status as follows

California
As of 7/23/02 they were processing I-129F cases dated 5/07/02

Nebraska (the center I am using)
As of 7/16/02 they were processing I-129 cases dated 4/22/02

Texas
As of 7/03/02 they were processing I-129F cases dated 5/28/02

Vermont
As of 7/16/02 they were processing I-129 cases dated 7/3/02

Of course Nebraska is going at snails pace and Vermont is flying. What is it about Vermont that allows them a 2 week turn around time?

The first NOA should have a number on it, it is called the "receipt number" on the NOA.  Try the telephone number (in the evening unless you want to wait all day) as suggested in the post below and there may be some prompts to get you a computerized status of the K-1 as well as their estimated processing time.  I would avoid the Congressman route.  I just went that way when the INS messed up his green card with the wrong birthday and it creates more problems than it solves.  (Vermont may be fast on the K-1, but it's hell after that!)  If you can't get through via phone,  Check the estimated processing time and, if that has passed, send a letter attaching a copy of the first NOA to check status.

There's no way to check anything between the time you submit and then receive the (second - the real one) noa.

However...    Your fiancee is from UR I think and the best you can do is check it online after the INS approves your petition and then sends it to Warsaw.

I'm sure you know of this link by now, but for everyone else that doesn't: (Interview Dates)

http://www.usinfo.pl/consular/appoint/fiance.htm

For Russian Fiance' Visa Interview Dates:

http://www.usembassy.state.gov/moscow.html/wwwhcisk.html

I think that the above link name will change over time so don't rely on it after todays post.

There is a phone number (or used to be) that you could call to check your status of your petition, it was an interactive recorded message...you punched in your number that you have on your NOA-1 and wait to hear another recorded message...pending or approved. If I can remember (it has been over a year now) the phone number was on one of the MOB sites, maybe someone can help you out with the current info...

Try keeping busy by cleaning and repainting the house or working a lot of overtime.  There's nothing that you can do now but hope, pray, and WAIT. Hang in there. I know that it seems like it is killing you but noone has died doing this yet. This is, without a doubt, the hardest part of the whole process.

I know of some guys that have hired lawyers or had elected representatives intervene on their behalf to find out what was happening with their cases but what do you think happens if someone has to run down your file?

A. It gets put back (on the bottom of the stack).
B. It gets left on someones desk.
C. It gets "lost".
