Title: Hot news! International passport for Ukrainia
Post by: Mick on July 08, 2002, 04:00:00 AM
A few days ago I mentioned that Ukrainian citizens are not required to travel to Russia with international passport (Ukrainian passport is OK). Well, according the news today, this will cease by the end of this year and Ukrainians will require the international passport when travelling to Russia from 1st January 2003.

Below is the translation from the "Kommersant" journal (more information - see the link below - in Russian, though)

July, 8 The assistant to the general consul of the Russian Federation in Kharkov consul-adviser Vyacheslav Elagin has informed journalists, that from January, 1, 2003 entrance on  Russian territory will be allowed only to those citizens of Ukraine who have an international passport. According to the diplomat, this measure should block a way to Russia to illegal migrants, narcotics-couriers and to terrorists. This measure has not been undertaken to restrict the freedom of travel for law-abiding citizens .

So, I guess they've got plenty of time to start working on their tunnels under the borders like we have here with Mexico.
