Title: Translations!! Post by: Mark Z on July 06, 2002, 04:00:00 AM Hi,
I was just wondering where is the best place for my lady to get her documents translated to English for a Fiancee Visa?? We are having a bit of trouble with this part of the process. Any help would be very much appreciated. Title: Re: Translations!! Post by: Mick on July 07, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Translations!!, posted by Mark Z on Jul 6, 2002
Mark, If it is no trouble for your fiancee to send you a scanned copies of the documents via e-mail, then you may consider doing the translations here (in Australia). Cheers Mick Title: Re: Translations!! Post by: Patrick on July 06, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Translations!!, posted by Mark Z on Jul 6, 2002
I believe you're going to need certified translations for these documents. If you can't find someone certified in your area who you're happy with, you could always use a search engine and enter "certified translation russian (or whatever language you need)" to see what comes up. Sending the documents through the mail is going to increase the time it takes, so if you end up using someone who's not local, it's best to start early. Title: Re: Translations!! Patrick has some translation services in the 'click here' side bar. I reckon he's checked them out, or at least not had too many complaints about them. Give one of them a shoot. Not the kind of translating I was after. My fiance needs to get her documents (passport, birth certificate etc) I am trying to find out the best places for her in Ukraine to get this done. My wife contacted a Notarization/Lawyer office, they specialized in legal translations. I was there when she picked them up, no real formality...drop off her documents, next day they are ready. She paid 180 rubles ($6) per document and 30cents for each copy. Each document had pink yarn attached along with Notary stamps and seals. It is the same process as if you were to get something Notarized in USA, except they include a typing service for the translation. A word of advice...make sure your fiance gets extra copies of everything...she will need to give away a few when she gets here, it is far cheaper to get certified copies there than try and do it here. I know of some people in Kherson... I don't know if that would help... Title: Re: Where in Ukraine? Post by: Mark Z on July 06, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Where in Ukraine?, posted by MarkInTx on Jul 6, 2002
My fiancee lives in Zaporozhye and there seems to be a distinct lack of translation type agencys in her city. There is one agency which say they will take all her documents to Kiev and get them translated/notarized, for $100. Is this a good price?

Mark, if you need any help with getting your fiancee paperwork in order there in Zap, just holler at me. Title: $7.00 Per document, Post by: BrianN on July 07, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Where in Ukraine?, posted by Mark Z on Jul 6, 2002
is what it cost us, but that was in Novosibirsk using the Siberian Centre of Translation; (not in the Ukraine). ymmv. Title: Its more than we paid Post by: MarkInTx on July 06, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Where in Ukraine?, posted by Mark Z on Jul 6, 2002
But it's hard to say. $100 is not a bad price if it gets them to you quickly so you can get started! I'm surprised that there is NO ONE in Zap that can translate though. Kherson is no major metropolis, and we had several choices... Anyway... my advice would be to get it done as soon as possible, if it means sending them to Kiev, do it. If you mess around for thre weeks to save $25 will it be worth it? And, yes, Ukraine is an interesting place to "do business." Victoria has told me stories that amazed me as she has tried to get everything together! |
