Title: Finding a Job in Ukraine
Post by: John K on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM
I'm thinking about heading to Ukraine to live, once my wife has permanent residency status.  I've been looking for expatriot job listings, but haven't found anything.  Any recommendations on where I can go to find some decent job listings?  I'd prefer Sevastopol, but would settle for Kiev...

Title: Move to Ukraine??

John,

Why would you want to move to Ukraine?

I could understand a desire to do mission type work as a very good reason to move to another country, but Ukraine is going nowhere but downhill. This trend will continue for decades into the future. And it is certainly not a good place to raise children, especially when compared to having the option of raising them in CWA.

Given your fairly recent marriage to a very young Ukrainian girl (they're not women until at least age 25) I am quite curious.

Regards,

WmGO

Check with the guy Jimmy who used to post here a lot.  He lived in Ukraine for quite a while.  He is back in USA now, but haven't seen him here for some time.  Sorry, don't have his e-mail address, although he posted it here before.

Also the lady Amerikanka (or something like that) who posts here lived there for quite some time.

In a pretty highly-specialized engineering field. There aren't too many people that will qualify for the type of assignment Jimmy enjoyed.

Best bet would be to contact the American Chamber of Commerce and see what leads they may be able to suggest - www.amcham.kiev.ua.

John,

check this website: http://www.russnet.org/work.html

Also, there are a wide variety of US organizations and government-financed projects which might require work of expat in Ukraine. Check organizations like IESC (www.iesc.org), CDC (www.cdc.org), IREX (www.irex.org), Eurasia (www.eurasia.org) and there are many others who are financed through USAID (United States Agency for International Development) who work in Kiev and other cities in Ukraine.

Other than that, it really depends on your area of qualification. I think some companies like Price Waterhouse have offices there. The best way would be to contact US Consulate Commercial Service and ask for list of US companies present in Kiev or Sevastopol. After all, there might be even positions in the Consulate, you never know.

Oh, check this website too. That actually might have good information on what types of companies are already there and many many more.

If you are looking for a job that pays well. This is only my personal opinion. I think you have a better chance of finding a needle in hay stack. I have seen some of the job listings there and the pay is very low and there is not much work to be found. There are some computer jobs to be had though. Rick
