Title: Just got my pizza- Post by: Oscar on June 18, 2002, 04:00:00 AM and the pizza delivery guy was speaking Russian on his cel phone as he was walking up to the door! LOL!
I asked him where he was from and he said "Ukraine, you probably don't know where this is, it's near Russia". You should have seen the look on his face when I told him that my fiancee was in Ukraine! LOL! Small world.. Title: just wait Post by: KenC on June 18, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Just got my pizza-, posted by Oscar on Jun 18, 2002
Oscar, Just wait until your Ukrainian sweetie is here. Russians will pop out of the woodwork. We were in Vegas and Lena pointed out hundreds of Russians to me. While we lived in Detroit, she met Anna Kornikova and the wife and family of Larionov (from the Red Wings). Now I had lived in Detroit all my life and never accomplished that. LOL KenC Title: Re: just wait Post by: Oscar on June 18, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to just wait, posted by KenC on Jun 18, 2002
So she could just tell by looking at them that they were Russian?? Wow.. I would never have thought this pizza guy was if I hadn't heard him speaking Russian, he had a shaved head! We may actually get married in Vegas at one of the hotels.. Either the Mandalay, Caesars or Bellagio. They all have really nice wedding chappels. Thought that could be a lot of fun.. Funny you should mention that. I was thinking of a Vegas wedding myself. I've been married twice now... First time was a conventional church wedding... ended in divorce. Next time, I went with the simple Justic of the Peace affair... same result. The way I figure it, that leaves me either A) Married at sea by a captain or B) married by "The King" himself... OK... so, maybe I won't do the Elvis wedding... but I do love Vegas, and it is a good excuse to go. Someone on here (can't remember who, now...) got married at a wedding chapel on the outskirts of Vegas, and they said it was not too expensive, and real nice. I looked into the weddings at Monte Carlo last time I was there, and the "package" doesn't seem all that great... you get a room (not a special room, mind you) champagne and then you get the chapel for an hour. I didn't get the impression that they really "made it special"... This is from the archives. I think he was replying to you. Mark - We got married at the Little Church of the West. Its a quaint little old church that they moved from a small Nevada town to the strip (south end) many years ago. Its actually designated an historic monument. Many hollywood types have been married there, including Judy Garland, Richard Gere/Cindy Crawford, and yes, Elvis himself (in a movie). Title: before wife came over............ I had checked all the alternatives. I was going to marry her on a cruise liner on its way to Alaska. Then I was going to marry her in a lighthouse in main. Then I was going to have a family wedding in a small country church in Indiana. 1.It was November and cold in many places. 2. my mom was staying with my sister during a custody battle with my sisters kids 3. her family could not come 4. so we decided to go warm We almost did vegas, but she like the ocean and so do I. That is why we live by one now! Joe Title: Re: Vegas Wedding Post by: Oscar on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Vegas Wedding, posted by MarkInTx on Jun 19, 2002
Mark, I did some online research into it.. You can look at all the packages/prices they have for the different hotels online, with photos of the chapels etc.. The nicest ones I found seemed to be at the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and at Caesars. They do a million of them and are very busy, I do know that, so I don't think there would be any bad surprises. You can have them out in the garden at a couple of them if you wish, which are beautiful.. When my family was in Vegas last fall, we happened to see a wedding party taking photos etc., at the Bellagio and it looked really nice.. Again, there are different packages, that can be as low as like $800 on up to I think about $14,000! Just depends what you want! (I think the $14K one also provides the bride! LOL!) I just thought it would be a lot of fun for my family (sister and family and my cousins, who LOVE Vegas) to come down with us and enjoy it.. I'm not postive about it yet but am leaning that way right now. There are many fine wedding chapels not in the casinos that have websites. Their packages are a lot less expensive than the casinos. You can have a limo pick you up at your hotel and still save money. LOL Vegas is also very friendly with the paperwork for marriage licenses. The Venician also has a wedding chapel and you get a gondola ride after the ceremony. KenC Title: Thanks.. I'll look into that. Any chapel recommendations? n/t Post by: Oscar on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM Title: do what Post by: Stan B on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: just wait, posted by Oscar on Jun 18, 2002

I couldn't believe all of the switcbacks. Yes, it was incredibly beauiful... and I am gald I got to Lindbergh's grave... But I can't imagine taking my new wife back there. Priceless??? I would pay money to avoid it! However, if I could take a helicopter there, I would do it in a heartbeat! Don't mean to spout off here... I was just amazed at how "Hard" it was to go a mere 45 miles by car. Took four hours to get there, and I dreaded tha car ride back. Everyone has a different level of naseua, I guess... but I'm not kidding when I say I almost lost my lunch severla times... Title: It is a ride only for newlyweds .... My only problem with Maui is that the Jet Lag really gets me. I've been there twice, and it is usually about three days before I am feeling good. I don't know why... but going east is always easier for me... BTW, two of my favorite things in Maui are the Warren and Annabel Magic show... and Paragliding off of the volcano (can't remember which one now) I will agree that Maui is without a doubt, one of the most naturally beautiful places I have ever been. Aloha :-) Title: Casino Wedding Post by: Michael B on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: just wait, posted by Oscar on Jun 18, 2002
I was in Las Vegas last year, with my daughter our 3rd (4th?) annual trip. Stayed at the Stratosphere this time (daughter's choice, don't miss going to the top, once by day, once at night, but don't stay there). As usual, we went most every place in town, including the Paris. At the entrance to the elevator to the top of the Eifel tower is a sign: No Food, No Drinks, No Smoking, No Weddings. I asked the attendant if they were trying to be funny and she said "Not at all, before we put up that sign, we had 3 or 4 'unscheduled' (read 'unpaid') weddings a day at the top of the tower and NONE in our chapel" Hey, my latina wants to get married in a casino in Las Vegas too, but PLEASE don't even tell her that places like Mandalay Bay, Caesars or Bellagio even exist, my pocket book would be strained to host a wedding at the Plaza or Sam's Town......say, wonder if the Gold Spike does weddings? LOL! Hey, actually some of the nice hotesl do actually have some pretty inexpensive packages, I was surprised.. I think the lowest I saw was like $500-$800.. That's really not bad. And for like $1500, it seems like they do a really nice job from what I can tell.. Yeah, I'm sure poeple have found some pretty strange places to get married there! I know some get married on the rollercoasters etc.. Oscar, I found a small wedding chapel off the main drag on the internet. What is nice about doing it this way is that it is "one stop" shopping. You can order the chapel, photographer, limo, video flowers ect from the one place. For most of us here, it is at least our second marriage and the thought of planning for a big ostentatious wedding is less than desirable. Remember that YOU will have to do all the legwork as your RW will be of little or no help in this area. Most of the women will be familiar with this type of wedding as wedding chapels are very popular in Russia. Also helpful is that the ladies are usually "in tune" with moderation when it comes to things like wedding dresses and such. In our case, Lena bought a nice (short) white dress and she was good to go. Of course you have to make it special for her, but it is not necessary to break the bank for it either. Yes, we would do it again. KenC p.s. (As a suggestion if you go this route, make an appointment for your lady to have her hair & nails done at one of the many fine casinos. They do a great job and your woman will feel like a princess) Title: Re: Re: Re: that's what we did n/t Post by: Oscar on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: that's what we did n/t, posted by KenC on Jun 19, 2002
Yep, I'm not interested in the "huge" thing either.. I like the Hawaii idea too but it wouldn't work for us as my sister and her family and my cousins would not be able to do that and we would like them there. So Vegas is a nice alternative.. It will just be about 10 people from my family.. Love the idea about having her hair/nails etc., done at a nice hotel, you're right, that would be fantastic for her! Thanks Title: another idea Post by: KenC on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: Re: that's what we did n/t, posted by Oscar on Jun 19, 2002
Oscar, The one thing I would do differently is have our wedding dinner at Red Square. The gormet Russian food and Russian theme seems appropriate. KenC Title: Red Square Post by: MarkInTx on June 19, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to another idea, posted by KenC on Jun 19, 2002

Mark, We were very impressed with the food there. Think gormet Russian cuisine. Less impressed with the vodka selection as told in the other post. It is Vegas' rendition of Russia, if you know what I mean. We liked the place a lot and will go back for sure. Service was excellant. KenC Title: It's in the eyes and facial expressions. Mark, Now you have to listen to my Red Square story. LOL Lena and I took my son and 3 of his frat buddies to Red Square in Vegas. Lena did the vodka ordering from their impressive menue. After 4 or 5 of her first choices were not available, I just told the waiter to bring us a bottle of Stoli. They didn't even have Stoli Chrystal! We had our dinner and proceeded to finish off the large bottle of vodka with "the boys". My son tells me that his frat bros are still talking about that night! LOL. It seems that one of the boys kept excusing himself every so often, was throwing up in the bathroom only to come back to find his shot glass filled again. Lena is a legend at the frat house now! LOL KenC Title: Re: Red Sq story Post by: MarkInTx on June 18, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Red Sq story, posted by KenC on Jun 18, 2002
Oh... when you said that the frat boy kept excusing himself, I thought you were going to say something else... OK... reminds me of another story (Then I NEED to get off of here!) A Jewish mother is asking her daughter about her new boyfriend and the daughter says: "Mama, he is nice, but I am afraid he is sick." "Why do you think that?" "Well, when he comes over for an evening to watch television with me... he will excuse himself and go to the bathroom several times before the show is over. I am worried that something is wrong." The mother tells her daughter not to worry, she'll get to the bottom of it. So, when the boy is over, the mother takes him aside and asks him about it. At first the boy is embarrassed to talk about it, but the mother won't let him off of the hook so he confesses: "Mrs. Goldstein. To be honest, I find your daughter so attractive that if I am by her for any length of time, I become very aroused. And, I respect your daughter so much, that would never want her to know of my condition, so I go to the bathroom to relieve myself, before she sees." Later, the daughter asks the mother if she found out what was wrong with her boyfriend. "I spoke with him." "And?" "How many times a night did you tell me he does this?" "Oh, I don't know Mama... five... sometimes six times in an evening. Why, Mama? Is he sick?" To which the mother replied: "Your FATHER should be so sick!" In my younger years I would deliver Pizza. I used to say most anything to get a great tip… Working my way threw college used to work for the old rich people. If they were single working mothers I would take the pizza in and set it on the table for her. (Pizza can get heavy) If it was a single guy (regulars call all the time) I would sometimes call him and see if he needed any cigarettes or beer and stop and pick that up or if it was a old guy or old woman I would stay and chat as long as I could. I really raked in the extra cash like this.. The Speaking on a cell phone thing would have been a great help if they had, had them when I delivered… I will never forget this one time I lived in Tampa and I went to this one apartment. I knocked on the door and this Latin woman answered I gave her the pizza but oh darn I forgot the anchovies on the side so I had to go back and get them. I drove back got the anchovies and returned, I knocked on the door and I heard the woman say, “Come-in” but she really said “Coming” so I opened the door and when I stepped inside there on the living room floor was this naked Latin woman with this guy on top of her… I was like..Umm oh sorry I though you said come-in she said not I said I am coming… I was like here are your anchovies setting them on the floor as I stepped back out of the apartment. All I could think of after that is what in the world was she going to do with those anchovies…LOL |
