Title: How long does it take to prepare a K1? Post by: Richard on June 11, 2002, 04:00:00 AM I would like estimates for just the minimum number of forms to file the application and to include the extra forms that will spead up the interview.
Thanks in advance, Title: Thanks to all who posted :)) n/t Post by: JR on June 12, 2002, 04:00:00 AM Title: Re: How long does it take to prepare a K1? Post by: JR on June 11, 2002, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to How long does it take to prepare a K1?, posted by Richard on Jun 11, 2002
Kind of like a checklist of sort or a cover page of what order and forms were submitted. I'm sure this would be interesting to many if somebody would post it. Maybe someone who has submitted a recently approved K-1 for Moscow Embassy Title: Re: Re: How long does it take to prepare a K1? APK's list is just fine. For Moscow, you don't need the proof of income and OF-169 form, but perhaps it helps for Warsaw... Title: Re: How long does it take to prepare a K1? That's a really hard question Richard, there are so many variables.. Does your girl have a child? Can she speak English and follow instructions well?? If not, does she have a competent interpreter that can help her? Does she have good access to the internet and does she know how to use computers?? Much depends on how much you are also willing to pay.. My girl went to get a new passport and they said "no problem, $10 and we can have it for you in 3 months"! She said no, she wanted it in a couple of weeks.. "no problem, we can have it for you in 2 weeks, $125"!!! As you can see, there are too many variables to put a time limit on things.. This involves just my fiance (if I haven't lost her...) and no children. She has a passport and correctly certified birth certificate and copies of her passport. (I believe that they are correctly certified - they have to be redone.) I also have copies her biographical form dated mid may of this year and a letter of intent to marry from january and addit pictures from january. Basicly she did her part and I droped the ball... How long does it take me to do what I have to do my part and get updated copies from her of whatever documents need to be signed by her within 30 days of the application? I want to make a realistic commitment to her on when I can have this done. Title: Why redo everything? Richard, I am sorry to say it, and don't want to start a fight, but there is some just plain bad advice being offered. First off, are you dealing with Moscow or Warsaw? It matters which one. I can only tell you about Moscow, as of September 2000, although I have tried to keep up to date. Here is my unprofessional opinion that should not be relied on... You do NOT need to redo anything, nor does it speed things up to put a lot of stuff in the I-129F application that will be required at the Embassy. The translation certifications do not "expire", and I do not think the G-325A needs to be updated. Anyway, you can add in a notation about a new job or residence, if necessary, without having to get her to send you a freshly signed copy. ADIT photos--same story. As long as they are reasonably recent and accurate, they should work just fine. Just fill out the forms and photos you need to submit for the I-129F, and send them along. How long it takes depends more on which service center you file at, rather than how you file. Don't know if using money orders speeds up the process, as some have suggested. I used personal checks because I wanted to know when they were cashed. I also sent the forms in Priority Mail, with a delivery receipt requested. As far as her end, if she has a current international passport and no children, the only thing you need to get started on is the police report. In some cases, it is very difficult to get them from the local authorities. While most people don't want to push it past 6 months, they are supposed to be good for one year, unless there has been a change of residence to another jurisdiction. Make sure she gets the police report(s) in all last names she has ever used. Good luck, Steve M. I guess I don't quite understand what you are aying here... Are you saying that her certified papers need to be redone there?? Again, it could take a woman one week to get the papers together or a month! It all depends on how greedy the officials are, and how complete you want your petition to be.. I would definitely have her take new addit photos, she will also need her police report, if she has ever been married, her certified divorce decree along with Certified birth certificate. I would say you would want an updated letter of intent to marry from both of you.. Of course you know that all of her documents (except the letter of intent) need to be translated etc, right? I sent the whole enchilada- the I-134, tax returns, letter from employers, bank officer statement, her police report... everything. If you want to do that, it will take a little more time. I'd really recommend the Doc Steen web site. It can give you a lot of time lines etc.. You can get to it by clicking over on the left side of the page for this board.. Oscar Title: Stop with this... Oscar, Before you recommend to other people that they send in a lot of stuff that is not required until the K-1 application, why not wait until you actually complete the process, then check with people who did it the usual way, and see if you actually did get your visa approved in significantly less time before you tell people that this is a better approach? What I have to say next applies only to Moscow, and may have changed since September 2000: We didn't do include any of this "extra" material in the I-129F submission, and had my wife's visa from Moscow 6 1/2 weeks after it was approved at Vermont. I believe that everyone's timeline depends more on the Embassy backlog at the time their approved petition is received than on what is in the package. There is NOTHING you need to submit to the Embassy in Moscow before they schedule the interview. Scheduling is done upon receipt of the approved petition. It is, however, worth checking with the Embassy to see if it has been scheduled, since your fiancee may never receive the packet from the Embassy (which is mostly Packet 4; there is no separate Packet 3 in Moscow). If you have different information about Warsaw, then at least put a "Ukraine only" disclaimer on your advice. Steve M. Title: Steve, I think you have misquoted me.. I think you have misquoted me Steve. I have not said anyone has to include "everything" in their petition. I said it is what I MYSELF did. Below is my statement about that- I have been told by others, including Jack, that by including everything, it can shave 2 to 3 weeks off the process. It has to do with waiting for the packets etc.. Even so, it is almost a given that going through Vermont will still go faster than Nebraska even with possibly shaving off a few weeks by sunmitting all the info. Why do you need a police report if you are just filing your petition? The police report was only needed for her interview in Embassy...after your petition is approved. Did the process change all of a sudden? After you receive your approval...you will need to jump through more hoops later. Things you need from her: 2 ADIT photos, not passport photos. When you fill out your forms...make sure you keep a duplicate copy, just in case INS losses it. Most important, send by registered mail with return receipt. Apk1, I submitted everything with my petition.. if you send everything (the things you would normally need at the interview, like the I-134, Bank officer statement, tax return, employer letter, police report etc,) it is possible to shave quite a bit of time off the process.. Ins requirements for your petition are one thing, the embassy requirements are another...they do not work togeather. The petition stage of this process is about "you". The embassy stage is about "her". Once the embassy recieves your petition, they send to your fiance a packet which includes all of her forms to fill out and a checklist of items she needs from you. She will need to deliver copies of your financial papers as well as her biographical info direct to the embassy, at the interview all papers will be scrutinized...and must match! I know all about the "packets" and the key in sending it all upfront is that once the embassy gets your info, you can call and ask for an interview date immediately BEFORE there are any packets sent off because everything they need from her and you is there already, except her medical information. So it can shave off a few weeks with them sending "packets" and waiting for them to return.. This is why guys are doing it this way...
