.... And to think that I am geting excited about using up a week of my vacation to take a 6 day seminar on manipulating sugar to make sculptures in Las Vegas in July in 110 F heat ha ha ha. I am envious of you you lucky dog! getting away from pennsylvania in the middle of winter (even if it has been mild from what I have heard) to to explore a strange new exotic culture. Have a great time! bring lots of candy (tootsie roll midges 480 to a bag ha ha ha for better dispersion) and let me know if this Jollybees is all that it is cracked up to be. Are you stll going to meet with Michelles family? and hang out with her cousin? What ever you do I hope you have a great time and meet a new nice girl who captures you heart. And for those of us in the nose bleed section bring lots of film, take lots of pictures, and post a great honest trip report! Have a great and safe trip ! Windmill Boy Title: Jollibee is PEOPLE!!! Hey Wind, You really want to try Jollibee’s cuisine? There’s one in Long Beach and one down here in San Diego if you’re really interested (LOL). Actually, I think Jollibee’s secret to success is SUGAR. I understand they mix sugar in their hamburgers and that’s why they outsell McDonalds over there. But I do like their peach-mango pies :-) Yeah, when are you going to take a REAL vacation and do some traveling in the Far East? Hello Ray Nice to hear from you! If I make it down to Long Beach or if I take another jaunt down to San Diego (Which is tempting) I will try to locate the Jollibees. Do you think that they put the saugar in the burgers here to apease the filipino community or do they go main stream and leave it out to appeal to everybody else? As for the Far East I am working on that project ever so slowly but I am thinking about it every day. I have been looking through pastry courses that were being taught for this year. When I noticed that these 2 sugar courses were being taught back to back and in Las Vegas (driving distance and we have a hotel there where I can hopefully stay for free) The opportunity is too good to pass up. I have been wanting to take these sugar classes for the last 5 years or so and they will teach me a skill that definately will make my salary improve if I can become somewhat proficient in them. So I will have to allocate a week of vacation time to take these courses. Obviously afer 9/11 the job market took a nose dive. and the part time job market never materialized for me. One of my coworkers just left and the other girl who does the wedding cakes is pregnant and will have to leave so I will start to train with her and do wedding cakes. I also will start some supervisory development (management training) classes in March. Since we are short staffed maybe I will have the opportunity for getting overtime. I have reasoned it will be ultimately better for me to use my time to focus on my skills and training for the long run than to get a part time job flipping burgers or baking dog biscuits ha ha ha for the short term though I could use the extra money.
Now you might say why don't I go to the phillipines instead because it will be cheaper. First of all I have had much more interaction with the Japanese and I am also researching the possibilities of working abroad and I think that Japan will will provide a much better market for my skills but maybe I am wrong. On the home front I am trying to get something cooking with a Japanese older woman (5 months ha ha ha) who is living in Glendale she has just moved here to study to be a drug and alchohol counselor. so I am a little optimistic about that possibility. we are e-mailing a couple times a week and she is open to me driving down to meet her when we can arrange it. but as is the case usually I have not seen her picture yet. Don't worry I know your philosophy on that ha ha ha ha! That's about it for me. I will have to tighten the belt financially and I want to do some beach walking every other day so maybe I can tighten the belt physically a notch or too also ha ha ha. I might as well enjoy the sun and the t-shirt weather like yesterday and today while I am here in california. these hibernation habits from the East coast are hard to shed esspecially when I have no excuse for having them here. Wind, I don’t think Jollibee could sell any burgers here without sugar in the meat. 99% of the customers I see in Jollibee are Filipinos. The few gringos are like me, being dragged along by the wife (LOL). All the Jollibee employees down here are Filipino-Americans and when I go through the drive through, I conduct the whole transaction in Tagalog since they greet you in Tagalog. I knew all those years of struggling with Tagalog would pay off some day (ROFL). Hey, how is that Web page of yours working out? Are you getting many hits? I hope you aren’t getting a lot of traffic from those local bowling alley ladies :-) Drug & alcohol counselor, huh? Hey, maybe if things work out she could talk you off of that sugar fix. Hi WB, I don't know about flipping hamburgers at Jollibees, but you probably have enough training and experience to make the pineapple and peach-mango pies. ;o))) Seriously...I don't think they hire anyone without at least a bachelor's degree or professional training in the Philippines. I believe the Jollibee cashiers had degrees in accounting. They do accept college students as trainees. In the Butuan Jollibees, many employees are nurses...a good thing in case of grease burns. Good luck with the "older woman" and the wedding cakes. ;o)) Dave H. |
