Title: What I sent for a timely k-1 approval Post by: Mike on April 14, 2002, 04:00:00 AM I only sent photos of us together (2 of them), a copy of my passport where they stamp the entry and exit to Russia, air ticket stubs, the I-129F,hers and my G-324A, ADIT photo's for us both, our divorce papers and birth certificates,a copy of the front page of our passports,and a cover leter explaining our plans for marriage,how we met,and a list of contents of the package I'm sending. Everything of hers that was written in russian had a translation to go with it. We received approval with no problems what so ever, and at her interview (alone) she was only asked" Whats a Philologist have in common with a Carpenter?" She gave them a dirty look with no response and returned that afternoon to pick up her passport with the k-1 visa.

I thought for the I-129 her birth certificate is not needed. It is later on but not for the first I-129 submission. Am I wrong? When you are applying for the k-1 you don't need to send your INS service center your affidavit of support, if the embassy you deal with wants it then you send it to your fiancee. My post was in a nut shell the basics for getting you on first base and that is the approval letter from the INS. There are many people that read all this over kill information that is sometimes published, and they read out dated web pages that it becomes a nightmare, and end up taking something simple and making it feel to them as if they are learning rocket science. Many guys that are misled into thinking the process is going to be a breeze - and fail to recognize some of the essential ingredients. Assuming your post was intended to provide a service to guys getting underway, I felt it missed the target and could lead someone down the primrose path - hence, the post leading them to important additional detail. Detail that guys should be aware of (IMHO). In this post you seem to imply that the websites referenced represent "overkill" and are "outdated." My intentions are simple. In the begening I thought the K-1 was too much for me to do alone and after I did much research and did it myself did I learn that all one needs is the basics I described above. How can anyone be sure how long ago a web page was made and updated to changes being made, also why is it sooo important to learn everything one can learn about immigration procedures before getting started? If you're going to get married you'll have plenty of time to research the remaing procedures while you're waiting for approval,unless of course there are those that would prefer to know how time consuming it all is from start to finish before deciding if they are in love or not. What important details did I leave out in the steps for the k-1 approval? I would think love hides the difficulties this whole thing requires. Mike Title: Clearly, We Approached It Differently . . . I *NEVER* thought it was too difficult for me to do by myself. I considered it merely a matter of insuring I understood the details of the process and then executing on those details. Your sentimental comment about love hiding the difficulties is, well - sentimental, but it doesn't address the hard issues of insuring that the bureaucracy that holds your future in their hands is well-fed and satiated.
