Title: Thai advice Post by: Tim B on February 02, 2002, 05:00:00 AM Hello!
This is my first time posting here, but I'm hoping someone can give me some good advice. It looks like (from the messages I've read) that a lot of guys have the same goal I do. I want to go to Thailand, meet a good woman, and marry her. I was wondering what advice people can give me. It sounds like there are a lot of pitfalls and that Thai women are not nearly as easy to understand as some sites have claimed. I would not want to make a big effort and travel to Thailand only to have the women I am visiting suddenly and unexplainably lose all interest. Anybody have any positive stories to tell about Thai women? I thought there'd be more of them here! My hopes have fallen a lot from what I've read here. I had planned on using ICQ or email to contact women so when I go over I'd have someone to meet, but it seems (from what has been said here) that doing so is hardly much of a guarantee.

Tim, I don't know anything about Thailand but one thing you said did jump out at me. You said: *** My hopes have fallen a lot from what I've read here. This is even more so in a country like Thailand where English is not spoken near as commonly as in the Philippines. While it is true that having a penpal is no guarantee of finding the right one on the first trip, it sure won't hurt your chances either. SteveG Title: Thanks for the tips and the welcome! Hello! Thanks for posting and thanks for the tips, though I bet like most people here I don't really want to come down to earth. We all want things to go perfectly smooth, I suppose, but reality isn't so easy. Oh well, easy or not, I think it'll be worth it! I'll just have to more patient then I really want to be!

Tim, I don't know what your expectations are, but one thing you said struck me- "I would not want to make a big effort and travel to Thailand only to have the women I am visiting suddenly and unexplainably lose all interest." I would advise anyone beginning this to expect to take more than one trip to where ever they're looking. Some guys want to establish a relationship and move to the point of proposing before they even travel to meet the lady. That's not a very realistic, nor prudent, way of going about this. Most guys tend to travel to meet multiple women on a trip, then concentrate on one (if they even find the right one on their first trip). Take that with a hefty grain of salt though. I didn't follow my own advice and traveled to meet only a single lady each time I went to Latin America. But what I didn't do was try to move a relationship too far through correspondence/phone calls before meeting. I kept it pretty light until after meeting someone, then planned to return. I ended up traveling 4 times. If you consider your trips as vacations on which you can have a great time, regardless of whether you meet the future Mrs Tim, then even the "fails" are enjoyable. The probability of multiple trips is what can make this whole thing fairly expensive. This is not an easy (or cheap) undertaking for most. Title: Welcome! Hi Tim, Welcome to P-L. Sorry, I don't know anything about Thailand, but it looks like an interesting place (from what I've seen on TV). As Jeff mentioned, Malcolm could certainly provide you with much valuable information on finding a nice lady. Good Luck! Dave H. Title: Hi Tim! And welcome to the board. I suggest you get a hold of Malcolm - He posts here occasionally. I think he's been traveling to Thailand for over 20 years and after losing his first Thai wife to cancer, is now married to another. There's a link to his website by his picture on the Asian sweetie web site (I believe page 4) here: http://www.geocities.com/jeffsatpl/ Yes, he runs a small agency but I'm not pitching his services. He seems to freely offer his extensive knowlege of Thailand and Thai women to anyone interested. -- Jeff S. |
