Title: Free adresses (for now)...
Post by: Valya on February 25, 2002, 05:00:00 AM
Hello all!

I haven't been here for a while, but I just want to let you know I have been working on an Russian/Ukrainian women introduction website.
The site is very simple for now and still in proccess of developing and adding new features.
Because of that, I'm offering ladies' addresses for free for the next a couple of weeks until the website gets finished. All the ladies featured now have email access. I'll be adding new profiles weekly.
I just want to hear your comments and see what features/improvements you would like to see on my website.
Here is the address:
http://www.dbis.ns.ca/~valdon/welcome.html

Little about myself: I'm from Ukraine, came to Canada on a  fiancee visa. I've been married to a Canadian for 6,5 years, have a little boy together, good job, everything is going well.
Waiting for your letters.
Valya

I appreciate the information and offer.  I suggest you have a full length picture of each woman on your site plus more information about what each womans education background is, what they like to do in their spare time and what they are looking for in a prospective partner.

So tell me where do you find these women to put on your site?  Do you place adds in Ukraine/Russian newspapers?  Do you buy and sell databases full of FSU women like some online trading broker?  Where do you get these women?

I respect the FREE addresses offer, even though I am sure it is a play to give us a taste and then hook us into your Pay Per Letter correspondence system.

Questions:
Why should we pay you $5 for translation when we can do it for free with a translation program?  Sure the programs are not perfect but I think they work well enough for simple letters that we write.

You should have a section telling how many times people have ordered each womans address.  Lets be honest in all this ok?

You except checks?  Who should I make mine out to?

Since you now live in Canada and have a great life family etc.  Why are you lowering yourself to start a website charging men to meet FSU women?  It is that your new capitalist lifestyle has made you greedy?  Can’t you just enjoy life without taking advantage of others?  Or do you really feel like your helping?

Look, anyone can put up a web site with what your doing I can create what you just created in about 2 hours worth of work.  Come up with something original for a change.

P.S. what is Vdadvert in your E-mail address..  And why not use a real E-mail account instead of Yahoo etc…  Are you hiding something?

Ryan sounds like you need to be a little more than "simple", (and maybe a little more demanding) in your writing, to get to know someone.

you only get what you put forth the effort for.

otherwise, you end up scamming yourself.

Oh I get deep, for the most part my efforts are concentrated with those women that speak English.  The rest I pull the plug on…  Just to many to choose from to screw around.  I use prompt for little things and it is cool…
Thanks,
Ryan

Title: Sheez . . . Talk About Suspicious

Ryan,

I can answer half of your questions and I don't even know Valya.

Ryan: "So tell me where do you find these women to put on your site?"

If I were Valya, I would tell you that it is none of your business. In fact, the way in which I acquire the 'goods' I wish to sell is a trade secret.

Ryan, your question is sort of like asking your neighborhood Checker Auto where they get their batteries from - or asking your local Red Robin restaurant from whom they buy their ground beef. Do you do that?

Having said all that, from my knowledge of several agency owners, I know that they get their addresses from numerous sources - just as you might expect. And at least several of those sources are not easily accessible to you nor I - such as word of mouth referrals, for instance.

Ryan: "Why should we pay you $5 for translation when we can do it for free with a translation program? Sure the programs are not perfect but I think they work well enough for simple letters that we write."

While I agree with your basic premise, there are quite a few guys that are more comfortable having a live person perform a contextual interpretation rather than the literal interpretation performed by computers. Further, having quite a bit of experience with both - and being able to speak some rudimentary Russian, I will tell you that there are, or will be, occasions that you simply do not wish to be misunderstood. A trusted interpreter is your ONLY real option.

Ryan: "You should have a section telling how many times people have ordered each womans address. Lets be honest in all this ok?"

Some sites have this - some don't. I would not be implying that Valya is dishonest simply because she doesn't have this on her site - as you did. She *may* want to accept your inputs as a suggestion - but hold the accusations.

Ryan: "Since you now live in Canada and have a great life family etc. Why are you lowering yourself to start a website charging men to meet FSU women? It is that your new capitalist lifestyle has made you greedy? Can’t you just enjoy life without taking advantage of others? Or do you really feel like your helping?"

What - in the world - makes you think she is "lowering herself" and "taking advantage of others"?!?

Young Ryan, I think you have a LOT to learn about the ways of the world young man. Particularly how business is conducted. Your accusations are boorish and in VERY poor taste - not to mention insulting.

Ryan: "And why not use a real E-mail account instead of Yahoo etc… Are you hiding something?"

To top it all off - you need to accuse the lady of "hiding something" simply because she elects to use a Yahoo account!! Was it not on this very same board that Patrick, among others, suggested the use of a Yahoo or Hotmail account as one means of mitigating the virus exchange problem.

Ryan - hold your accusations. Ask sincere question (not rhetorical ones). See what you might learn BEFORE making insulting accusations.

- Dan

Dan,
I don't know you either, but thanks a lot for your words.
You are a Man who can protect a woman and be supportive and understanding.
Sometimes that is all a Ukrainian/Russian (any?) woman need, but often can't find...
Thanks again,
Valya

Not only all that Valya said, but Dan you sure have a lot of patience.  At first I was in agreement with John K. and Cold Warrier that it makes more since and would be the wisest thing for you to just ignore the trolls.  But here you show that maybe what is obvious to us needs to be spelled out to them and if you have the patience, time, and are willing to make the effort, more power to you Dan.  But at the same time, please keep Patrick in mind.

Ok yes I will agree that I was a little heavey on the accusations, this whole process has hardened me in this mannor.  I want to appologize to Valya for my words.

It answer your questions, Yes I most definatly alway ask where the ground beef I purchase comes from.  I actually grind my own from beef as the burger is getting so bad now days no mater where you get it.

Where she gets these woman is important to me and if it is a trade secret then fine.  It was just a question.

Ryan,
I'm just doing it for fun,  I know it's not perfect, nothing is...
If I was planning for making a lot of money I wouldn't offer free addresses, would I?
Translation services are offered, but you don't have to buy them, they are for people who have hard time translating with a programm, and maybe for those men who want to impress their women and send them letters in Russian...
And if I'm really willing to help someone, is it so bad?

I pay for my nephew's university education in Ukraine, also support my retired parents and all of the money from this event (if I make any) will go to them.

Thanks for comments,
Valya

Fun and supporting family, sounds like a great hobby, beats selling arts and crafts ay...

In your opinion how impressive is sending a letter to your russian friend that is translated in their language as opposed to using a translation program.  On a scale of 1-10 will it make or break a preliminary E-mail relationship?

No it is not bad that your willing to help people, I am sorry for my accusations.

Initially, it's no big deal, but after a while, reliance on prompt, can totally destroy a relationship with it's limitations... if you let it.

I notice that you offer translation services but the girls information often does not state if she knows any English.  Whether the woman can speak English is often a primary consideration.  It would certainly be desirable for most of the profiles to mention this.
