Title: NOA on I-751 Post by: Jimbo on February 07, 2002, 05:00:00 AM ..just received from Vermont Service Center (I-751 = Application to Remove Conditional Residential Status). It reads:
"Your alien card is extended 1 year - employment & travel authorized. Processing your form will require a minimum of 30 days. If you have not heard from us within 12 months, then may contact this office." ?? - I was expecting to be all done inside 90 days, but this looks like the INS is setting the stage for a long delay. Jim, Yeah, it seemed like the INS strung the process out forever with Melly too after she got here. Every few months we would have to go somewhere for finger prints or to get something stamped in her passport or whatever else they could dream up. But look on the bright side, Sally is with you now so who cares how much red tape they throw at you. Besides, all those INS inspired trips were like little mini-adventures that we could have together and I sort of miss it! By the way, she got here in Aug 95 and it took until Sept 99 to get her US citizenship. Steve, What gets me is that the 'conditional' permanent card is extended for 1 year. Why 1 year? They say the application will be processed in 30 days. 90 days should be plenty of time to render a decision, that's why they tell you to file 90 days before the expiration date on the card. It's not an AOS petition where you wait 8 or 9 months for processing and an interview. As I understand it, an interview for the I-751 is not required but may be asked for. Maybe things have changed since 9-11; they look and see she's from Mindanao and the application gets special attention. Or else new policies are being put in place and they're planning ahead for big delays. Jim |
