Here's your address (courtesy of V): Украина (postal code) Title: Reverse format address Post by: Bob S. on January 25, 2002, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to real address question, posted by deatchef on Jan 25, 2002
A number of countries use that reverse format for writing addresses including Russia, Ukraine, and Japan. Writing the address on an envelope would look like this: [best if printed in the native language and alphabet of the destination country] COUNTRY [this time in English] Remember, if you want it to get there, don't do anything to confuse the delivering postal official. They are expecting to see the address written in a particular format. Definitely write the address in Cyrillic or it will boomerang on you as soon as it gets to Ukraine. And yes, write "Ukraine" under the address or it won't leave the US. Expect it to take 10-15 days to get to Kyiv and another 3-5 to Lugansk. I would put the postal code on the first line though (after Ukraine). In Ukraine they start with the Country, then City then Street That address looks right.. You can right it the other way also it will still get there... Persons Name UKRAINE Title: Re: real address question Post by: SteveD on January 25, 2002, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to real address question, posted by deatchef on Jan 25, 2002
There should be some sort of zip code as well i think...at least there is for addresses in kiev. if you want to really speed it up you should write the address in Russian alphabet as well, this saves time when the letter arrives in Ukraine otherwise the address will have to be translated by someone so that the postman can read it. |
