I went to a resort in the Altai mountain region during my trip to Novosibirsk this past October. It is about an 8 hour drive from Novosibirsk. The roads are bumpy but acceptable. The low mountainaous regions are beautiful - reminds me of the catskill mountains in lower New York State. There is excellent skiing there during the winter.
