Title: Wintergreen and Ukraine
Post by: John K on January 14, 2002, 05:00:00 AM
Believe it or not, wintergreen does not have nice connotations in Ukraine.  Apparently, when a person dies, the first thing that is done to the body is a lotion is applied to keep the skin from deteriorating.  Guess what it smells like?  Yep, wintergreen.

This has caused a few things to go awry for me.  I sent some PeptoBismal to babushka to help with her stomach.  Since it smells like wintergreen, she refuses to take it.  I love wintergreen lifesavers, but my wife can't stand to be near me when I eat them, as she doesn't want to sit near someone who smells dead to her.

It's a curious fact, but I thought I would pass it along...

I have noticed the very same reaction to ladies and the wintergreen breath mints that I like so much.  Those ladies hated that flavor.

Now it makes a little more sense.
