An apartment is already allowed for. What sort of $denominations should I take. What currency would I receive in change from transactions?

How much is up to you. $500 plus the apartment should be adequate for a week, but you can always spend more and probably get by with less. You can exchange US dollars for Ukrainian hryvnias at exchange booths all over Kiev. Don't do it at the airport. Wait until you get into town. Check around - there are different exchange rates at the various booths. They will exchange any denomination of USD's but make sure the bills are not wrinkled or torn. Some places may not take $100 bills, but I have never had a problem with crisp 20s. |
