Title: Jurisdiction of Consulates in visa processing Post by: DR on December 09, 2001, 05:00:00 AM Anyone know how firm the consulates are about processing visa applications only from people who live in states within their jurisdiction? I've received three visas in the past, all from the incorrect consulates (apparently). I (and they) never paid much attention to it before. I never noticed this before. Did I get lucky or am I incorrect in my understanding of visa processing procedures?

You can always do it through the Ukrainian Embassy in D.C. They are faster than Chicago, which has limited hours. In addition, the Embassy will now accept a downloaded application form. My experience is that when I applied for a Ukrainian business visa that they only accepted my application at the correct consulate. I tried a couple of times to send it through Chicago addressed directly to the Consulate by name, but they sent it back each time telling me to send it through Washington, D.C. consulate. I finally got it after several attempts. Maybe it depends on the type of visa you are applying for. I live in California and based on the info I got from the website of the Ukrainian Consolate, I applied for my business visa at Chicago and it was sent back saying I was required to apply to Washington D.C., this delayed my visa by one week. I live in CA and always used the Chicago consulate. Just used them because they were the closest to CA and figured the two on the east coast were probably getting more requests and it might take longer for them to process. Didn't know they had specific states they were responsible for in processing visas. |
