Title: Assistance from Train in Kiev to Airport Post by: James B on December 06, 2001, 05:00:00 AM My fiancee is coming to visit me in Iceland and the first leg of her trip she will travel from Sumy Ukraine to Kiev by Train. The train lands in Kiev at 0500 and her flight is at 0900 enroute to Stockholm. How can she get from the train station to the airport? Does Rostick offer help with this and to help her fill out the customs form upon arrival at the airport? She is a little worried about the unknown and any help from this board would be great.
My second question is regarding her stop in Stockholm. We purchased two sets of tickets. One from Kiev to Stockholm with 1030 arrival, and another separate ticket to Iceland with 1330 departure. I know she will have to check her baggage and at Stockholm and then go through Customs and proceed to the Icelandair ticket counter, but does she have to have a transit visa? I understand that as long as she has a ticket to leave on another flight, and Stockholm is part of the Shengen agreement along with Iceland that it will be no problem. Any input on this? Rostik helps people frequently to make these sorts of connections. As for the 2nd question, that is a bit trickier. It *may* be possible for her to present both tickets to the agent in Kyiv (for the Sweden leg) and ask that her baggage be checked through to her final destination in Iceland. If the airlines have a cooperation agreement, this should be no problem. The next part of your question is even tougher. I presume she has a visa to Iceland?? I can imagine that she may have to do some talking with the airline authorities to explain her final destination and prove her travel plans there by presenting tickets and maybe her passport with visa. If she can get those bags checked all the way to Iceland so that she does NOT have to retrieve them and re-check them - then she can stay within the secured, transit sections of the airport in Stockholm and a visa for Sweden will never become an issue. I would suggest she try that. Can you check with the two airlines to see if they have a cooperation agreement for handling each other's baggage? If so - I think you should have no problem at all. If not - then it will probably involve a lot of questioing and a lot of discussion on her part to make it through. In any case, she is going to need the assistance of the airline personnel.
