Title: Warsaw Train Station Post by: Rickster on December 09, 2001, 05:00:00 AM Just to let you know about my experience in meeting my finacee at the Central Train Station in Warsaw. She rode train from Odessa, Ukraine to Warsaw and I was suprised at just how big the Warsaw station was. First, I suggest you make sure when your fiancee gets train ticket that she tells you exactly what train she will be arriving on. After that I went to the Mariott Hotel and a nice gentleman at the information desk actually walked over to the train station (across the street...or under in the tunnel) and showed me exactly which platform (Person) that train would come in on. It was great piece of mind. Also, on the third floor at the train station you can watch a huge board that updates maybe every 10 or 20 minutes about trains arriving. My fiancee told me the train number and carriage number but all I saw on the sides of the trains were numbers 1,2,or 3....maybe it was in small print somewhere and I missed it.
Be careful because trains sometimes are early...but mainly late. I also avoided the ripoff taxi drivers that hang around the front of the train station waiting for easy money from Americans. Get a person from the Mariott and have them coordinate a taxi driver for you who will charge you a "reasonable rate". I paid about $10 to get from the train station to our hotel. I paid about $15 or $20 get get from airport to Grand Hotel. The Grand Hotel is equivalent to a motel 6 here...but they have a good breakfast that comes with the room. It was clean and met our needs. Hope this helps...Rick Title: Re: Question about the Grand Hotel. Post by: Oatmeal on December 09, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Warsaw Train Station, posted by Rickster on Dec 9, 2001
I would like to know more information about your experience with the Grand Hotel. What time of year did you go there and what was the price you paid per night for the both of you. I am toying with the idea of meeting my fiancee in Warsaw for her interview and I would like to know more about what to expect in terms of expenses per day in Warsaw. Any insight into the daily expenses would be really helpful and appreciated. Thanks, Jim Title: Grand Hotel Post by: Rickster on December 10, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Question about the Grand Hotel., posted by Oatmeal on Dec 9, 2001
For double room paid just over $60 per night during the last week of November. I didn't notice a big difference in price between states and Warsaw...but that is "in general". I would budget about the same as a typical american vacation and I bet you will have a little left over. Just be sure and take a stocking cap...the wind in Warsaw is brutal. Old Town is a must to see but the restaurants there are very expensive. Me and my fiancee limited our old town visits to nice coffee shops and watched the snow come down...best of luck Jim...Rick Title: www.hotelspoland.com . . . Will provide you with up-to-date rates for the specific time of year you plan for your trip. Olya and I were fortunate and able to reserve a room at the Hotel Sobieski for the same rate as the Grand (about $70 per night) - and it was spectacular. - Dan Title: Re: Grand Hotel Post by: Rags on December 09, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Warsaw Train Station, posted by Rickster on Dec 9, 2001
Same as a Motel 6? Wow, my fiancee was very impressed with it and I assumed that it was better than that. She also said that the staff was great. Title: Re: Re: Grand Hotel Post by: Rickster on December 09, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Grand Hotel, posted by Rags on Dec 9, 2001
Motel 6 in terms of American standards. It was OK and clean and I would agree that the staff was good. |
