Title: Russian Stories by Gleb Struve - Nyet! Post by: BarryM on December 01, 2001, 05:00:00 AM The only dual language Russian book I have found so far is Russian Stories. Unfortunately, the editor's choice of stories is very poor according to my Russian friends. After reading some of them, I have to agree. They are very negative and very weird. This comes from the opinions of four native Russians with whom I'm closely aquainted.
My Russian teacher suggests for novices such as myself, poetry by Puskin is the best to start with. I'm working on a list of good Russian short stories for beginners, much of which is available online for free. I hope to have some recomendations soon. -blm Title: Re: Russian Stories by Gleb Struve - Nyet! In the past it was not easy to find a good translation of puskins poetry that is in English. Just keep in mind that you will never get the full breath of what a great artist puskin really was unless you can read the Russian language. Most wish puskin would have faired a little better at dueling. |
