Title: General questions re: I-485, etc. Post by: lebaron on December 04, 2001, 05:00:00 AM I have begun to complete all the forms for Adjustment of Status, Employment Authorization, and Travel Permission.
Questions: Now that we are married and Yelena has taken my last name, do we file in her "new" name?...or under the name on all previous documents...we have not done anything re: social security changes. Do we file by mail (Northeast Region) or in person, any advantages? Any other general guidelines will be appreciated...and forgive me for not having read my homework assignment yet, but I am up to my ears. Thanks. Title: Yes, do please use new last name Post by: SteveM on December 05, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to General questions re: I-485, etc., posted by lebaron on Dec 4, 2001
Lee, We did not change my wife's last name because we were concerned about getting her Russian passport changed first. However, it would have saved a lot of time and money if we had filed AOS/EAD/SSA and everything else with the new last name. Best way to file is in person at local INS office; otherwise by mail to the local office. In person means you actually have the receipt, plus they can tell you on the spot if any forms are missing. Maryland is the only state that is done at the Service Center. Steve M.
