about your job, READ THIS: The San Francisco Zoo has an elephant named Calle who has a chronic illness, requiring medication. The zoo people couldn't get Calle to take her dose orally, so a California pharmacologist developed a suppository. The 10-inch-long, four-pound, cocoa-butter bullets are crafted by the good folks at Guittard Chocolates in Burlingame. Administering the DAILY medication takes five zoo workers, including one person to distract Calle with treats and one person who wears a Why am I telling you this???? Just think - FIVE people have jobs worse than yours! Title: Re: Think about it... Do you know the differnce between an attorney and a catfish? One is a cold blooded, bottom dwelling, scum sucking, slimy scavenger, and the other is a fish. -- Jeff S. (P.S. I hear my best attorney jokes from attorneys themselves) Title: those #@!!XXX ! attorneys.... I know we like to beat up on attorneys, but they are more a symptom than the problem. Think of the millions of Americans that might slip on a grape at Safeway and twist their ankle...JACKPOT! "I'll nail them for millions!" That is so often the attitude. We love to hate them, but when we have the first sign of legal problems we tend to want to find the meanest one we can find...a guy who gets up in the morning and sharpens his teeth with a file.... 2 cents worth Title: Re: those #@!!XXX ! attorneys.... Yep....all the negative comments about lawyers...all the lawyer jokes....all the negative talk...REALLY HELPS A LAWYER'S BUSINESS. It's amazing how this type of negative stuff is really a positive for attorneys. Also, consider the possibility that some people don't like attorneys for other reasons. First, perhaps they are afraid of attorneys because attorney's seem to have a lot of influence in the country. For example, most of congress are attorneys. And the folks who wrote the Constitution were comprised of a lot of lawyers. Some people are bothered by a group that has a lot of influence. Second, perhaps it bothers some that attorney's can charge quite a bit of money for their services. They might figure that if they can't charge this kind of money, then why can an attorney charge that kind of money? This comes down to being jealous. Third, disliking lawyers is just a popular thing to do. Stephen Title: Re: Re: those #@!!XXX ! attorneys.... I once paid an attorney with a bad check. He called me up and said "Your check for my services proved to be worthless". I replied "Good, then we're even"....and he never bothered me again. Remember it pretty much took lawyers to start the debate of the true meaning of the phrase "all men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence, and what the meaning of "equality" really meant. To our Founding Fathers it simply meant a level playing field for all to exercise their skills, talents and abilities in order to make a living. Abraham Lincoln refined this concept to include all men regardless of color. It was the Progressive thought in the early 20th. century that changed the meaning to mean "equality of outcome" and "equitable distribution of public goods and bads." For some, this meaning still isn't good enough. Now remember (joke) that America is the land of opportunity because there is a greater proportion of lawyers to the rest of the population compared to any other country in the world. In America, everybody has the chance to get rich. Now I'm sure this is what Alexander Hamilton had in mind when he helped frame the Constitution. (just joking on this part). Anyways, that must be the reason why the Constitution really isn't black-and-white and can be interpreted many different ways to suit the party's circumstances. I just finished my final exam for the course, "Democracy and Its Critics." I've got to write up Christmas cards now. - Kevin Title: Hurry up with those Christmas cards Post by: Jimbo on December 19, 2002, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: those #@!!XXX ! attorneys...., posted by kevin on Dec 19, 2002
We're leaving for a Christmas vacation in NYC. Sally loves the place and I want to see Ground Zero. Mayor Rudolph "Rudy" Guliani says "If you want to help New York City, come and spend money." Plus the hotels are an incredible bargain right now, so off we go. Our cards are sent, thanks to Sally... Merry Christmas Kev! I think James Madison actually penned most of the Constitution. Overall I agree with your point, but lawyers, as such, are not the ones responsible for the creative interpretations; it's the 'progressives' that you mentioned. The right of the people to "keep and bear arms" is pretty clear to anyone who looks at it objectively. Kevin, once you finish school I think you should apply to law school. You could specialize in foreign-bride divorces - you've got the talent for it :o))) Jim |
