Ok, so this Wednesday I head down to Mexico to visit my daughter and my ex-wife.  After the trip, on November 7th (my birthday), I'm headed down to Barrranquilla for the first time and the first time I use an agency to find a woman.

Does anybody have any last minute advice?

I'll write a trip report when I get back on the 20th.  And hopefully post some pics for other newbies like myself.

Why?  Are mosquitoes really bad in Barranquilla?  I hope not, I hate them.

yes it's bad. do yourself a favor and take the strongest repellent you can find. the funny thing is that as soon as i got there, it was as if the mosquitos were notified ahead of time that i was arriving,they had their feast for a week or so. i stayed there one month and after a couple of weeks they didn't bother me, sort of like being initiated, you become like one of the locals until they get tired of you and look for new blood.

I have not found the mosquito situation to be that bad. Occasionally they will flare up but most of time I am surprised by the lack of mosquitoes for a tropical climate. I found Florida to be much worse. You can go without rain for 5 months in Barranquilla and the heat dries standing water quickly. A mosquito only lives a couple of weeks. I think the problem with mosquitoes in the city is mostly in areas close to standing water. It has been raining a lot recently almost daily for the last 2 weeks or more and I have only noticed one day where it flared up. Now I am in the middle of the city, if you go to the countryside during the evening hours you better be prepared or you will have bites all over you.

when i was in barranquilla, never had a problem with mosquitos, not once, but bogota, you leave your window open and your asking for it, cali too.  ever been to minnesota, after 5:00pm, everybody heads in, you could cut the air with a knife the mosquitos are so bad there, beautiful place but couldnt take the bugs!!!

For intensity I think the North can beat out the tropics when it comes to mosquitoes. The worse I have ever seen was early summer in the Sierra Nevada’s in California at around 8000 feet.

I now take an army surplus "mosquito net" when I go to BAQ.  The cost should range from $20 - $40 USD.  After being eaten alive on a previous trip, I was happy to spring for the $40 model.

I made the mistake of staying in an otherwise nice hotel, that had a lot of "open air architecture", as is common in BAQ since its always hot.  In addtion, this hotel had a decorative bathroom window, with slanted slots that was designed not to close, but to keep the glass in a decorative diagonal position (Hotel Majestic)... the mosquitoes poured in at night, and I had to keep the bathroom door close to try to slow down the onslaught.

You might also want to shop Home Depot or Lowe's and look for duct tape or some sealer with removable tape (like weather stripping) to hang the screens over the open windows.

Duct Tape and Brass Clips can solve many issues confronting men! LOL

If I lived there, I would sure pack all I could the next trip to the U.S. including screens, rollers, aluminum frame sections, etc. Make your own if not locally available.

I grew up in south Florida. We used to say that the mosquitoes in the swamps were so large that they had to land on the roads.

friggin hornets!!! Swatting at them didn't do a dayyum thing. We had to punch & kick the shit outta them, to get them to back off! It was dayyum near impossible to get your "grove" on at night, because of them bastards

There are no mosquito's in Baq. Forget that. You do, however, need my English speaking taxi driver ($75 paypal). Without him you will be subject to a barrage of other vermin and pestilence. He may even be able to help you here with your writing skills.

So my plan is to go and meet 7 women that I am interested in and have shared emails and/or phone conversations with.  I have picked the 7 as ones that I am interested in out of the 23 that showed an intrest in me.  As far as there beauty range, I only approached woment hat I was attracted to in the first place, whether they may be a 7 on the scale to a 10.  The fact is I found myself attracted to them in the first place, and now have weeded them down to ones that share simular intrests or we share great conversations and have a good time communicating.

have a list of agencies with you, so if you dont find what your looking for at the 1st agency, or their service sucks, go check out the next one. also, you can find some girls who might be willing to meet you when you arrive in Barranquilla through "amigos.com".

take it slow, dont get engaged within a week, and dont think their is a better one just around the corner, or  you just might miss out on  a nice girl. lots of men do this and never meet a girl because they start at 7's and 8's and end up chasing 9's and 10's that are way out of their league.
