Title: Taking Animals to Colombia? Post by: Gringo Loco on November 01, 2005, 05:00:00 AM Hello,
Has anyone tried or researched the subject of taking animals on a trip to Colombia? Is it allowed? Is it a nightmare? Anyone? Often the risk of taking beloved pets on vacation is not worth it. Some animals do fine..but what seems like the calmest of animals at home, suffers intense stress during flights and handling that often results in death. This is a fact...just something to consider. Does not mean it will happen, It could...that chance to me is one i never take with my pets. Title: Re: Re: Taking Animals to Colombia? It's going on a permanent vacation. It's not coming back! Thanks for the info though. I can understand long flights but 3 hour flights. I don't think thats much of a big deal. I was more concerned about customs. Thanks, Mike Title: Not Much Of A Problem.. All you need is a INTERNATIONAL Health Certificate issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is obtained though your vet. The vet, I think, must be be certified by the USDA. it takes about three days to get the certificate and it is ONLY VALID FOR TEN DAYS so you need to coordinate your trip very closely with your vet. ALSO, in order to get the certificate, the RABIES vaccination (for some reason not required for cats but I would have it anyway) given NO LESS than thirty days BEFORE the certificate is issued. When Ralph the Cat made the trip, closly guarded by Mrs. Gator, they just waved us through. Title: Re: Not Much Of A Problem.. Dude! I'm an animal. Take me along, and then set me free once we land in Cali's Alfonso Bonilla International Airport. Bet? Cool! You're Thee Best! :P Title: Re: Re: Taking Animals to Colombia? Snoop, It's simple. The hardest thing about going to Colombia is having to come back home! Thanks, Mike |
