Title: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... Post by: Hoda on July 24, 2005, 04:00:00 AM Handle the news for awhile? Posting events here will only clog up the viewing & make it that much more difficult for regulars & newbies to sift through the threads. In addition to the re-opening old wounds (political & social) unnecessarily.... As I said before....this is the only board here on PL that goes through this bullshit! Maybe this is one of the reasons why we can't get Women...not even our own wives & girlfriends to post here. Like it or not...if y'all continue these "ain't got a dayyum thing to do with our REAL reason for being here" post.... I'll delete them ASAP! Title: Some news is actually on topic--Lifetime's two-hour special Post by: lapentier on July 25, 2005, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc...., posted by Hoda on Jul 24, 2005
I agree with you the rehash of the headlines belongs somewhere else. Besides, there is plenty of news that actually is on topic. My wife informs me that the Lifetime channel, which advertises itself as "television for women" is going to run a two hour special titled: "Human Trafficking". Many of their shows can be summarized: Criminally bad man, married and/or boyfriend of innocent woman victim, does something illegal/immoral/unethical/abusive/etc to innocent woman and/or children, and is brought to justice through the efforts of said woman with the assistance of the appropriate social/legal/case worker or police agency. Given Lifetime Network's programming disposition, and just the promos I have seen for the program, this could be two hours of less than pleasant viewing... Wow. I've heard that the network is essentially geared towards women, but I didn't think it'd be so negatively slanted against males. Tis a shame. And more reason to flee. The regular TV channels are slanted against men including Hollywood. Look at almost any movie today women seem to be everything while men are just bumbling idiots. Now just imagine a womens channel? It is probably ten times worse than regular programing. Title: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... Thanks again for cleaning out the playpen. As usual it has a tendency to get messed up every so offen. I hope all is well with you and your family. Did you have the opportunity to enjoy any of the Colombian festivals yesterday? Out in my neck of the woods we had the 26th annual Independence Day celebration held on Saturday. The Aguila on tap went down well on the hot sunny day!!! Title: Re: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... Hoda, I will try to make this relevant to the list. It was reported that the London police shot and killed a completely innocent man on Friday. The man was a 27 year visitor from Brazil. The man's family is outraged and the Brazilian government is asking for an investigation into the shooting, and peripherally into the policy of shoot-to-kill. When host countries kill citizens of LA countries, does it affect the willingness of Latinas to live abroad? I think the very desperate will continue to try to live in a rich country, but the not so desperate may re-think living in the US, UK, or Europe. I have met Colombianas who preferred to stay in Colombia than move to the US. One reason was the perceived level of crime in the US. One of my trips was not long after a student shot and killed several classmates. This Latina was horrified that children could a hold of guns so easily and was terrified of letting her future children attend American schools. Another had heard horror stories of the treatment Colombians receive at the hands of US Customs and Immigration and perceived bias by police. She was middle class and used to a certain level of deference. She was very offended that she and her countrymen could and would be treated so shabbily. I have met and heard of vacationing Argentinians who have become extremely angry at US officials when they are treated as if they are undocumented workers simply for having a Spanish accent. My experience with Brazilians leads me to believe that the whole country is extremely angry about this shooting. Part of it is that only the wealthiest Brazilians can identify with being the victim of a terrorist attack since they are the targets of some sophisticated crimes. Part of it is that Brazil has ambitions of becoming a stronger economic power. Seeing their citizens killed with impunity without clear provocation reminds them of their low status in the world. I am sure that this event is playing all over the Brazilian media. The next few letters a Brasileira receives from a Briton are very likely to go directly to the circular file, unless she is a scammer. My point is that if we are seriously looking for quality wives, we need to project ourselves as quality men. Respecting other countries, cultures, religions, customs, and mores is a way of projecting high quality. Cheering the killing of a national of a SA country is a way of projecting low quality. Projecting low quality will only attract low quality women. Title: Re: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... " have met Colombianas who preferred to stay in Colombia than move to the US. One reason was the perceived level of crime in the US." I don't know where you are meeting these Colombians (maybe in a mental hospital ) I have been to Colombia many times since 1989 and I have NEVER met one person that did not want to live in the USA ......... there even afraid to travel in there own country ......... what planet did you come from ???????????? "Respecting other countries, cultures, religions, customs, and mores is a way of projecting high quality." This comment was meant for the jihadists, right?
I'm sitting at my table at a Chinese buffett this evening, eating my grub, minding my own business, when suddenly this chubby Latina steps across the isle to my table, grabs a bottle of Asian hot sauce, and then returns to her table. No, "Pardon me." No, "Can I borrow that?" Not a single word. She needed a few more squirts, so returned a split second later, but the same story: No "pardon," no "sorry," no "thanks". Nothing. I gave her the "WTF!" look, and she only smirked. But, I've seen this happen time and again, and figure she's just another rural Mexicana who's unaccustomed to social mannerisms. And the child that was with her; what did he learn? This simple little act is okay. Walking over someone is okay. Taking advantage of someone is okay. It works both ways, Professor of Cultural Studies. Title: Re: Re: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... Doombug, I have seen that same kind of attitude and behavior here. Mainly from the Mexicans. The ladies that are here from Colombia and other South American countries are more feminine and have manners. They are alot more beautiful than the Mexicans too. I've learned to let the occasional bad behavior stuff slide; not to take it personally. For the most part, recent Mexican immigrants that I come across (which is every day, where I work) are focused on one objective: Earning money to remit home. Everything else is secondary. I agree about the beauty/femininity differences. Mexicanas are overly chunked out. But, they don't seem to care; don't seem to be caught up in the competitive nature of many women elsewhere in LA with regards to beauty. When I lived along the border, and in Mexicali, Mexican "Plain Janes" where the norm. I suspect Mexico City would be a little different, since it's more international/cosmopolitan. Think about it!. They just had a bus and 2 or 3 subway trains blow up a couple of weeks ago. Killing alot of innocent people I might add. Then four more guys tried to do it again but fortunately they were unsuccessful. Then this Brazillian whom was there illegally from what I understand. Starts running from the Police and jumps on a bus or subway train. Can't remember which. What are the Police supposed to do? For all they know this guy is going to detonate another bomb and kill more innocent people. It was the guys fault not the Police. He should have stopped. It looks like he was hiding something or up to know good. It is unfortunate that he had to lose his life but he only has himself to blame. The Police were doing there job which was trying to protect British citizens from murder and mayhem. Keith Title: Re: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... 27-year visitor (?) makes himself look suspicious and runs like crazy from the cops (into a subway station no less after a recent series of bombings) Sorry, but his apparent stupidity didn't help him any, if he was innocent. Bra-Zilla: "Cheering the killing of a national of a SA country is a way of projecting low quality" You pathetic little phony! So now you will pretend that YOU and ONLY YOU knew all along that he was an innocent Brazilian. And now you will scold us all because we didn’t know and you did? What a dork-ass you are! Your anti-American rhetoric is getting old. Now why don’t you stick your thumb in your ear and go bowling… Title: Re: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc.... Speaking of the treatment of colombians by U.S. customs. One trip I made back from Barranquilla to Miami was horrible. We arrived to Miami they let us get off the plane stopped us at the end of a long hall way and had two female customs agents check everyone passport. They treated everyone like shit especially anyone with a Colombian passport. I watched a older woman who was Colombian but was a U.S citzen get grilled on why she went to Colombia finally the woman snapped and told the agent I went to bury my mother if that was so important for you to find out!!! that stopped the B*tch in her tracks for about 30 seconds. Then she started on me why did you go there? what were you doing? who did you see? I went to see my wife, I stayed with my wife´s family the entire time and I did nothing the entire time. Then I told her do you have any other questions? she said nothing and I left. I was pissed because those bastards know that everyone of the Colombian there would not say nothing because they were afraid they would get held up or sent back to Colombia because of b.s. You know this was the time I wish I was someone high up with the government because I would have broke it off in their asses for this crap. Title: Re: Re: Can we all let CNN, FoxNews, etc....
