Title: Divorce after Marriage on Colombian soil?
Post by: Looking4Wife on July 18, 2005, 04:00:00 AM
I know that several posters have posted about marriages to Latinas that didn't work out...

My question has anyone experienced a divorce after a marriage that occured on Colombian soil?

Unfortunately, I have experienced the rigors of the USA divorce process (with an AW).  Obviously divorce is ugly anyway you slice it, but I am curious to see if the Colombian divorce process is any more or less time consuming than the lethargic USA process?

Don't know if this would help but I was married in Ukraine & my divorce will be final the 25th of this month. My atty advised to do it HERE & NOT overseas. Apparently that's the same advice Bala gave the other poster here. Texas is an easy state to get a divorce in.

It took me about $400 dollars and about 45 days to get divorced in Colombia. It would have taken a little longer if my wife didn't sign the divorce papers but there was no point in delaying it. All of my assets were in the states and my wonderfull sense of humor was gone. The last thing my ex-wife wanted to do was piss me off even more. hehehe !!!

I got married in Colombia and divorced in the states.Gary Bala advised me against a Colombian Divorce, warning me of some things that could go wrong like Colombian attorneys not getting it done.I made a deal with my ex and had an uncontested US divorce. There was nothing to it but waiting 7 months in California.I have been told it would be good to regester it in Colombia since I live there she could claim half of my Colombian assets, which are not much right now. if they thought we were still married.

Pete:

I was under the impression that whatever country you got married in, that was where you would have to go through court to get your divorce.

Sounds like you are saying your experience was the opposite???
