Title: Visa question
Post by: Ricardo on July 10, 2005, 04:00:00 AM
My Colombian friend wants to travel and is going thru' Puerto Rico (ie. in transit there), and needs to know if and what kind of visa she would need.  Any suggestions or advice?  Thanks...
Ricardo

You are of luck as i recall transit visas for Colombians was canceled a couple of years ago.  It will take her a minimun of 1 to 2 years after application to get a U.S. tourist visa, but in the end make other plans as today most are turned down regardless of family, education, employment
Colombian's can visit quite a few country's without a visa, like Panama, Japan, etc.  There is a list you can find somewhere on the internet or someone else on this board can help you.
In any case the lesson here is when you mess around with Colombian women who do not have a current U.S. tourist visa, your U.S. travel plans means a marriage visa, and world travel plans become complicated and expensive.

Even if she is just passing through Puerto Rico or any other part of the United States, she is going to need a transit visa.

Hey, thanks for the input.  Not a scam, I've known her for a while, no red flags, good family and excellent job and career prospects in Colombia.
I agree she will need a visa, hopefully it won't take too long.
