Title: LASIK surgery in barranquilla
Post by: jediknight on June 03, 2005, 04:00:00 AM
[This message has been edited by jediknight]

just had this procedure done a few days ago and all went very well. i can see 20/30 but the doctor told me that it will improve over the next few weeks so i should have 20/20. i  can see close and far, in other words reading and distance. this is amazing since i had very bad vision, 4.75 dioptor, coke bottle glasses, i couldn´t see far away and had astigmatism so goodbye to glasses and contacts. i had the procedure done by dr. luis escaf at http://www.cofca.com/index2.htm
Clínica Oftalmológica del Caribe, it came to 1,300,000 pesos with initial exam and consultation which is about $550, definitely the best money i´ve spent. the staff was super friendly and some of the girls were hot.

Did you have any reservations about using a South American doctor? Did you talk to any referrals? One hears about a lot of botched surgeries down here. One would also think that they would not have the latest and best equipment. Any thoughts about this? Was you cost roughly half of what it would be in the States? Also let me know how things turned out for you if you would. Thanks

Colombia has outstanding medical care.  Transplants, heart, liver etc..

Why would you think such a thing?  Have you not traveled to the major cites?  Jamie this sounds like something someone would say who had no idea about the quality of life here.

Maybe you should expand your mind and not let your prejudices govern your thoughts.

Heat it doesn’t take much for you to reek antagonism.

"Why would you think such a thing?"

Since I know most Colombian don’t throw anything away unless it is completely unusable I would be concerned that the latest and best equipment is being used for this type of surgery. It may very well be the best.

“Make sure you go to a doctor who uses the new Interlase laser for making the corneal flap. Why? Because the Interlase is 100 times more precise than the "old fashioned" method of using a microkeratome to cut the initial flap. Many speculate that most of the problems that come from LASIK surgery have been due to the impreciseness of the microkeratome device used to cut the cornea.” http://www.lasik-resource.com/

"Have you not traveled to the major cites?"

Yes, but not for surgery.

“Jamie this sounds like something someone would say who had no idea about the quality of life here.”

Sorry, I don’t make hospitals my home nor have I ever had the need to visit a Colombian doctor, which is why I asked the question. I have heard many horror stories about botched elective surgery. I know there are top notch doctors here but they may have more of their share of bad ones?

“Maybe you should expand your mind and not let your prejudices govern your thoughts.”

Maybe you should expand your vocabulary and stop calling people “racist” and “prejudice” it seems to be your favorite last retort.

What a loser.....

Apparently you didn’t see the discovery health report on the girl who had her breast enlargement surgery in Colombia, her nipple fell off after a week, it wasn’t very easy to watch, and she had three cosmetic surgeries in New York to try to fix the problem. Why she had it down there, trying to save $ 1500. And her recourse for suing the doctor, oh sure!!!

sorry mudd, but that type of botched plastic surgery happens all of the time in the U.S.  Did you know that in 9 or 10 states (including Georgia), dentists are licensed to practice plastic surgery??
Many, many plastic surgeons' practices here in the U.S. are comprised almost solely upon fixing botched surgeries performed by other surgeons.  Does anyone remember that doctor in FLA years back who was performing botched surgeries left and right??...and he video taped most of them. At one point he was doing some type of implant on a guy who wanted bigger pecs, instead of a pec implant, he used a regular woman's implant, and at one point used a kitchen spatula as a surgical tool...I think they finally caught the guy last year.

wow, thats pretty bad, who would have known a dentist in 10 states could do plastic surgery under a dentist license. well, a least they might have more recourse or options to sue them here than down south.

You are so full of shit it makes me laugh.

Of course I don't form my opinions based of the TV.
And nothing ever happens bad in the USA?

What that bullshit has to do with the overall care here I have no idea.  Anecdotal evidence is what you have.

But that may be beyond your limited bible beating mind to understand.

WOW, somebody has a bit of a foul mouth, I hope you don’t talk to women and children with that mouth. I never said nothing bad ever happens in the USA, but I would think you would have more recourse to sue a doctor here, or at least get his license revoked if he screwed up an operation, or several than down there. Oh and where did religion come up in my post??? or in any of my posts for that matter?

Even so, doing a Google search on the "dangers of Lasik surgery" brings up food for thought and if anyone is contemplating this popular procedure to improve one's eyesight, both the benefits and hazards need to be carefully considered.

I sure would not want to undergo this elective surgery and come out with one of many possible complications from the procedure.

Hey Pablo, long time since Colombian sweethearts. anyway, we had a eye doctor here in san Diego get sued by 100 or more clients for doing crappy work and unnecessary work, I think his name was Dr Kayswich or something like that. My friend had the procedure done a few years ago, went to LA to get it done because he felt the doctors here were rushing while doing the procedures, like an assembly line. Good thing he didn’t use the doctor above.
