Thanks! all my relatives are all fine (thanks God) but their rice field, home, farm are vanished. I spoke my Mother last night and I had asked her to visit my aunt in Camiguin to find out what really happen to them. So my Mom went to Camiguin today and I'm going to call her back when she return to Butuan on Sunday. What a sad and devastation situation right now in Magting,Hubangon and Mahinog. So THAT'S why she's been rooting for those San Diego Bolts lately -ROFL! Sally got through last night. Her auntie and uncle and two kids living there got out in time (they ran toward the ocean, away from the road) but the house is gone in the mudslide. We thank God they're ok but it's sad for them to lose their home. It was on the highway, an old historic wooden house built on mahogany stilts, with fruit trees and gardens all around. It had survived the 1951 volcano/earthquake, but not this. I'll always remember sitting up high in the living room, next to the big window with sliding shutters, looking down on the highway and waving to those who yelled out "Hello Friend" as they rode by on piles of coconuts, or rice sacks, or jeepneys, or carabao, or anything else one can imagine... Now my wife wants to know who this ‘Sally’ woman is...ROFL! Sorry to hear about the family’s home on Camiguin but happy to hear that they got out alive. I remember riding through there on the highway in a multicab. I was really impressed with the neat houses, the beautiful flower gardens in the yards, and particularly by the friendliness of the people on Camiguin. What a sad tragedy… Ray Title: I hope they can rebuild Post by: Jimbo on November 09, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Well, Peaches has done it now!, posted by Ray on Nov 9, 2001
Hi Ray, Sally says the house was over 100 years old - her uncle got it from his father and he from his father. Her uncle is 67 and retired now but still a spry little guy. He still climbs coconut trees! In May I was looking at some land with a lot of coconut trees and asked him if his son could harvest them for me. He said no, pointing to his belly and saying you needed to have a flat stomach... "but I am the one, you want to see me now?" I said "No!" - worried he might fall out of the tree on my account. But he really does still do it, he's always harvested his own trees. His hands and feet are tougher than leather! Jim Title: I don't know! Jim and Sally, That is great news that Sally's family is safe! We just found out about the disaster and were concerned. It's a shame about their house. There was some concern about possible extensive flooding in Butuan, similar to that which occured several years ago. Thankfully, it didn't occur. Jim, you'd better keep a close eye on Sally...San Diego Bolts...unbelievable! ;o)) I only have to worry about basketball and some Wizard named Michael Jordan. Dave H. Title: MJ ain't a fireman! I don't know why I didn't respond. It may have been during my computer malfunction. My purple G-string is safely in the drawer of my night stand. Within arms reach, should I find the need to pull it out. ;o)) The San Diego Bolts are actually the San Diego Chargers...a football team. You like baseball...that is interesting. I didn't know any Filipinas were into it. My wife is a "big" (4'11") basketball fan. ;o) Me...I'm into scuba diving, swimming and bicycling. Here's a link to one of my bikes. I think you're just crazy. Hehehehe... Dave H. Title: Re: Hey, where's my wife? to Jimbo's wife. This is news to me. I hope that everything is OK for them. I've also been a bit concerned about Hurricane Michelle. I haven't heard from Dave H at all in a few days, which is unusual, but I'm guessing that married life is keeping him busy. I know that south Florida was threatened by the hurricane. - Kevin Title: Thanks! I'm safe at last! Hi Kevin, I was out surfing and was swallowed whole by a Great White shark. Fortunately, I was able to escape when it farted and torpedoed me directly unto the beach. ;-) OK...my hard drive melted. I think I can assume that thanks to a pretreated purple G-string, which you must have been wearing, it didn't agree with the shark's stomach. - Kevin Title: Re: Thanks! I'm safe at last! Hi Steve, My cooling fan went out and I didn't realize it. The computer sits in a cabinet, so ventilation isn't very good when it working. Fortunately, it is an old pc that was given to me and I had fixed. I guess I shouldn't have put in a used power supply. LOL Now I have to compete with my sons to use one of the other computers. I guess I'd better fix it before summer vacation. :-) Dave H.
