Title: Arequipa Anyone? Post by: valleydude on April 16, 2005, 04:00:00 AM I am planning on heading down to Peru here shortly. (May)
I planned on going to Lima, but have been talking to a girl from Arequipa and she has become my main interest. I'm thinking of seeing if she will meet me in Lima, but a possibility is me swinging up there. I have the weekend warrior attitude about trips; more long weekends, stretching out my vacation time for more visits, etc... Right now though, I am seriously considering swinging up there using a day of my short trip. I'll land in Lima at 7am on a Friday, and can be in Arequipa by 2. If it's not so good upon the intial meeting, I'll head back Saturday morning to Lima and stay in Lima until Tuesday. That is my plan. I don't have any other serious interests in Peru, so if this doesn't go right, my plan is to just get familiar with things, maybe go to dinner with a couple of girls, and be more comfortable for a return visit. I'm looking for the usual "Gringo Friendly", hotel, input, so has anyone been to Arequipa? its interesting for a few days but not a destination to which I plan a return. I saw some nice ladies but not that many and not as good as Lima which is nowhere near as good as Colombia. there is a concentration of bars and restaurants on this one street near the main plaza. I forget the street name. Anyway, there are some good restaurants. I can't say they are any better than Lima but there is some good food. (Peru does have the best food in South America in my opinion) There is a really cool American style bar there that is quite popular called Zeros. Best place in town as far as I can tell. But I didn't find that many attractive girls at all there. In fact, the tourists were more attractive than the locals. Usually the opposite is true. Alot of Argentinas. you can do some things around the area like going to the Colca Canyon to see the condors. Some people became sick due to the altitude sickness. Outside of Arequipa there is nothing to do but try to make little rocks out of the coca leaves. It is a pretty city nice colonial buildings and the volcanoes in the background. Also, very very dry and sunny. since you will only be there a short time, if it doesn't work out with the girl immediately, I would high tail it out of there and head back to Lima. that being said, I would love a return visit to Peru. I liked Lima and the country in general and as opposed to Colombia, you can travel around. I would like to go back and head up north to the beach and jungle areas. I had a splendid time in Lima. HI Dude, I have been to Arequipa many times on business. I have stayed at several different hotels. All of them were nice. I am writing from home so I don't have the names with me. Librador Posada (?)was one I think. Arequipa is a tourist town, so you probably can't go wrong on a hotel. Arequipa is my favorite town in Peru. It is very sunny much like Arizona. The food is great, the best in Peru. The town is very diffenent than Lima. There are some great restaurants at the Plaza across from the church. One is a steak restaurant one floor down from the street level, it is great. The restaurants on the veranda near the square are also great. It is a great place to buy alpaca stuff. It is a big city second only to Lima. Enjoy yourself, I wish I could go with you!! Oh by the by, the women are great!! mike Title: Re: Re: Arequipa Anyone? Yeah I would totally appreciate it if you posted some names of hotels when you get to work. I have been reading more on the city and it's history. It seems like I can have a nice visit even if things don't fly good with a girl. My goal on this trip is to go to Peru and come back at least feeling like I had a nice few days away even if I don't meet someone. I'm hoping to find a place I can come back from and think, "I'd like to go back again with or without a girl". I didn't get that out of Venezuela. I don't regret the experience, but I just didn't get that "fix". I see there are few responses here, so I guess I'll be the second to venture off and bring back a report.
