Lets, see,I am a little out of touch here in SA but I thought O'Reilly said bring it on to an accuser,he was not willing to cave just to avoid embarasment. The story I read talked about huge law on the side of an accuser but he was willing to say show us what you got.If he settled I didn't hear it.Sounded real bogus to me.
FOR SURE the liberal media does play on body bags and bad news. Its about all we hear. Are you serious here? The negative is constanly MAXIMISED.
Going in to an unwinable war without a plan to secure the peace?Thats pretty good hindsight analysis.
Unwinable? We won the war pronto.Securing the peace is a different matter when 20% of the population does not want to give up the advantage they had over the other 80%.And they are fu---ng muslim nuts to boot.I don't agree with much Bill Maher has to say but he was right on  one thing.Maybe they want their religion more than they want democracy, and the 2 are diametrically opposed.
Was Saddam an ass worth kicking? No doubt in my mind.Did he have weapons of MD?Just about everybody agrees he did.Where did they go?Well I'm not sure he was smart enough to think of it,but if they couldn't be found perhaps he was smart enough to know this Might cause certain peoples will to
decline or raise enough question he might get back in power.
Speculation. We needed to do it in my opinion. We did.Are we going to see it through or wimp out?The wimp out vote just LOST THE ELECTION.Did you miss that?
And,did you notice Libia coming around? And Iran and North Korea a little more concerned than before. We won't have to kick those asses specifically because THEY KNOW WE WILL.
Reminds me of the new kid in school philosopy. You find the biggest bully and KICK HIS ASS.The others don't f--k with you.
I don't know what chickensh!t Bill Clinton Or Goofy Al Gore would have done.I'm glad we didn't have to find out.Saddam might be in Riad controlling the worlds oil instead of in jail. And the French? They would keep him out of Riad just like they kept Hitler out of Paris.
There is a duty being the worlds only super power.Thank god it is not being pissed away by the gutless.
But no thanks to the liberal media for encouraging us to do just that.

Too bad Al Franken's book, like Michael Moore's movies, are mostly lies. O'Reilly had registered as a republican many years ago but changed his afiliation to independent over 25 years ago. He also produced the deed of the house his parents owned where he grew up. It was indeed, as O'Reilly claims, in Levitown, New York, hardly a rich neighborhood.

True, he doesn't allow his guests, liberal or conservative, to spin a bunch of BS, but I've never once heard him shout down a guest, he simply insists they answer the tough questions. Plenty of people think he's a far left liberal and plenty of others (it sounds like you do) think he's a far right conservative. It's interesting to note, the ratings show he has by far the highest ratings of cable news analysis show - hardly the ravings of fringe lunatic.

BTW - he never claimed his show is journalism or news - but news analysis - unlike people like Dan Rather who try to hide the fact that they're pushing an agenda.

Bill O'Reilly also lied about ever having been a Republican.

Rush Limbaugh is also highly rated which proves being a raving lunatic and having high ratings are not mutually exclusive.

I don't know how anyone would consider him a far left liberal.

Aw, what the hell, Hoda hasn't had to trashcan a thread in a couple days so let me weigh in a little more and send this thread down the tubes after we've had a little debate.

I don't know what to make of Bill O'Reilly's popularity, but there is no denying it, however I don’t get it.  I haven't read Al Franken's book but I did see him and O'Reilly get into it May of last year and O'Reilly really did a poor job of defending himself when he was away from the security of his show with his producers calling all the shots.

I consider myself an independent, but lately I have been more supportive of the liberals, but not because of their pork barrel tendencies, but because Republicans, at least officially, seem to be so unsupportive of the poor and disadvantaged in this country.  I know we have to protect our nation against the terrorists of this world who would like to see us destroyed as a nation, but it bothers me that the Republican administration seems to not able to do more than thing at a time.  I don’t think the war on terror excludes us from facing other issues.  John Kennedy once said "We choose to go to the Moon and to do other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard".  He knew we could do all those things, just like we should be able to fight the war on terror and taking care of the other important things in this country, but the Republicans, and the Bush administration in particular, have "one thing on the agenda-itis".  Bill O’Reilly and Fox News only seems to interview and support people who support the basic tenets of the Bush administration, not the folks who just want us to be a better nation to the poor and disadvantage of our nation and the world but disagree with the Republicans.

And I don't like Dan Rather much either, but not because he is too liberal, but because he is a prima donna first and a journalist second.  Ted Koppel is the only big 3 channel journalist that has any true credibilty as a journalist IMHO.

Do you mean the "poor" programers who make over $100,000.00
And cry like a baby when THEY have to pay their own health care costs?  Yes poor little babys.

Maybe we should take away their candy.  It only makes them fatter!!!!!

[This message has been edited by lswote]

Actually I wasn't talking about myself.  My benefits I am entitled to because I am a disabled veteran, disabled in the service of my country.  I get my benefits whether democrats or republicans occupy the oval office.  Rather I am speaking about the poor who don't have healthcare, can't get healthcare and didn't have the Veteran's Administration to cover their ass.  If you get older and don't learn that life isn't all about yourself, then you don't have any value to anyone but yourself.  You are a rude, imprudent individual and I hope another 10 years adds some depth to your life experience because you are nothing but a selfish slug.

As far as being a programmer, I'm not anymore.  I just started my own company and hope to hire 4 employees by the end of the year.  I am not fatter either, as being sick over the last 8 months caused me to lose about 40 pounds.

Ironically, the $100,000 I made as a programmer is going to be paltry compared to the profits I should reap from my new business.  I figured if the best tax breaks under George Bush are for the wealthy, might as well become wealthy to take advantage of them.

Finally,  I do not apologize for the amount of space in this post I intend to devote to telling you about Heat. To plunge right into it, Heat's most progressive idea is to have more impact on Earth's biological, geological, and chemical systems during our lifetime and our children's than all preceding human generations had together. If that sounds progressive to you, you must be facing the wrong way. What he does in private is none of my business. But when Heat tries to make mountains out of molehills, I object. I intend to exercise my franchise to honor our nation's glorious mosaic of cultures and ethnicities. Why do I tell you this? Because these days, no one else has the guts to.

Does he have trouble living with himself, knowing that in the good old days, when courage, honor, devotion, duty, and loyalty meant something, it was comparatively easy to spread awareness of the militant nature of his protests? You know the answer, don't you? You probably also know that when he says that his cop-outs are not worth getting outraged about, in his mind, that's supposed to end the argument. It's like he believes he has said something very profound. Heat's beliefs are not an abstract problem. They have very concrete, immediate, and unpleasant consequences. For instance, if I were a complete sap, I'd believe Heat's line that he answers to no one. Unfortunately for him, I realize that it's childish for Heat to sully a profession that's already held in low esteem. Or perhaps I should say, it's tendentious.

Even so, Heat's supporters' thinking is fenced in by many constraints. Their minds are not free because they dare not be. Like a lion after tasting the blood of human victims, Heat will write off whole sections of society. One doesn't need a finely developed sense of irony to note that only through education can individuals gain the independent tools they need to give him condign punishment. But the first step is to acknowledge that implying that society is supposed to be lenient towards loquacious tyrants is no different from implying that children should get into cars with strangers who wave lots of yummy candy at them. Both statements are ludicrous. When I'm through with Heat, he'll think twice before attempting to do everything possible to keep the most stolid skinflints I've ever seen uncompromising and self-righteous. In the end, I trust Heat about as far as I can throw him.

Why is it that some liberals cannot understand that their politicians are as 'corrupt' as the anyone on the other side of the aisle?  It is amusing to me that, according to liberals , "Republicans are owned by oil, mining, and 'big business'"...well I have unfortunate news for you, the Trial Lawyers Assoc, the banks, the labor unions, and insurers (big business) own the Democratic Party in the exact same way (and degree).

The notion that the Democratic Party is underfunded in relation to the Republican Party is just incorrect.  It is a lie.

http://www.boston.com/news/politics/money/articles/2004/12/13/kerry_loss_wasnt_over_money/

If anyone thinks George Soros really wets his pants over 'the little guy', they are simply not an informed person.

The Democrat and Republican party are more the same than different today.  The reason that I tend to vote Republican is 90% due to the fact there there is a 0% chance that tort reform will occurr under Democrats.

The more liberal of the Democrats are figuring out that their platform is flawed; even Dillary is trying to cast herself as some kind of 'Conservative'.  It is both irritating and funny.

If this does not burst the superiority complex of liberals, nothing under God will:

'Liberal powerhouse MoveOn has a message for the "professional election losers" who run the Democratic Party: "We bought it, we own it, we're going to take it back."'

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/12/09/democrats.critics.ap/index.html

Sorry liberals.  Why don't you sit down and come up with a platform that a broad spectum of people can support?  When you do, you will start wining elections again.  In the mean time, try to stop BSing yourselves.

I think Bill O'Reilly INVITES EVERYONE  who he nails to show up and respond. Some do,some don't.Conspiciously absent in any effort to defend themselves for fear of looking like a bigger fool,Jesse Jackson and John Kerry.
There are lots of things I don't like about the Bush administration but taking them over a wuz like Kerry was a no brainer. And don't forget you get the whole package with a Democrat, including thingslike fruitcake envirementalism.
I like O'Reilly alot more than I like Bush. And my favorite politician,a guy with the GUTS to show up and tell it like he sees it every time,John McCain is a frequent guest of O'Reilly.
I will admit he has control of the show and has a bit of an advantage and can bully people.Mostly peoplec who deserve it.
I LOVE FOX NEWS.THERE WAS A BIG GAP THEY FILLED  IN MY OPINION .

O'Reilly has had some guests kindof bury him.  Michael Moore did; not out of content or facts, but he simply boxed in O'Reilly in a classic debate rope-a-dope.

I think O'Reilly is a mostly-entertaining ego-driven guy with some confused politics.  His drug stance is quite silly and seems not logic driven but emotional.

You like it because it reinforces your conservative views, not becasue it is objective.  That was my only point.

Air America reinforces my political views but I am far too intelligent to listen to it all the time because it isn't objective, ever though I agree with it.  I agree with Air America but it would be idiotic for me to claim that it was unbiased or objective.

I actually was force-fed several hours of Air America on a drive recently.   I was absolutely stunned at the wild factual perversions I was hearing.  They were so off base (talking about the Al Qaida and Iraq links) that it was making me laugh  out loud.

I do not find that Foxnews or Talk Radio in general fabricates data and does anything that is is anywhere on par with Air America.  Incidentally, I was listening to a guy filling in for a usual guy, and the names meant nothing to me, but it WAS Air America.

You don't reach people or recoup a lost mandate by BSing people.  While the left loves to hate Rush L., you never hear them taking him on, do you?  The fact is that Rush basically gets his facts right on and then is a near-genius at the spin and stab.  But he does not often truly pervert facts.  Never that I have heard, at any rate.
