... in response to questions for the  newbie....., posted by Calipro on Dec 4, 2004

Thanks for the info.  It does sound like a good idea to check things out once there.  I just was hoping to have everything arranged from here, so that I will have everything set up and avoid wasting time.  And as for the availability of women, it just never crossed my mind, but it does make sense, since they might have met someone since their photo was posted.  You seem to have a lot of experience with this, and I appreciate you sharing it.

"Don't worry about looking foreign just dress to kill."

That is good advice that even many old-timers seem to ignor. I have heard many ladies complain about how gringos dress. The Latinas almost always dress nice but many gringos dress as if they just returned from a nursing home or something. Women of all cultures pay close attention to what a man wears. It is easy to stand out in the crowd if you just give this some effort.

North Americans have a rep among SA countries as not have very good fashion sense, so I would recommend that dress nice.  After all, you could be meeting your next wife. Do you really want to mark that possible special day by wearing a tank top and shorts?

Most SA men dress nice and its important to remember that they are also your direct competition along with the other American men.

The women do pay attention to how you dress, and while it might not make or break the deal, it is important to them.

I agree with you that it is important to dress nice when meeting these girls for the first time, especially since Colombians in particular pay attention to this.  I have a couple of close friends who are Colombians, and they always way overdress when we go out.  And to me it is better than underdress.  I just was curious as to how regular people dress in the street so that I could more or less blend in (or try to).
