I am looking for information about filing for a K-1 visa for a Brazilian.  If anyone has done this before, maybe Ted, please describe your experience.  It is bound to be different from K-1s from Colombia.

Thanks in advance.

BP,

I haven't done a K-1 and don't plan to. I'm in Argentina right now awaiting the resolution of a different kind of visa issue.

One suggestion is you could get ahold of Tatiana (tati@)at www.brazilfiesta.com, a visa processing service. She is handling my visa thing in San Francisco. She has an Irish-sounding last name but is Brazilian by birth, so I imagine she has done the K-1 thing.

Tell us what you're up to when you get a chance, eh?

Thanks for the suggestion, Bueller.

I got a private email informing me that Brazil does the DCF, which Colombia stopped doing a few years ago, so I have that option as well.

I will update on my situation in the next week or so.

I may be mistaken; she may be from the FSU or something-- hard to place the accent.

I guess I could just Google this, but what is DCF stand for?

I've been checking into travelling to Brazil this winter.
Damn, looks like an awful lot of bother to get a visa, when one can just hop on a plane to Colombia.

I am in Rio now.  The visa is just a formality.  send in the money and your passport and you get it back.  the 8 hour flight from Miami is killer but the Copacabana babes will make all the pain go away.

If you are an American, yes it IS some bother.  Though when you get to Brazil you realize the bother was well worth it.  That is just my opinion, based on travel to both Colombia and Brazil.

If you are NOT an American, there is less bother and Brazil is a great travel destination.

Specifically, if you are European, or traveling on an EU passport, there is NO bother at all because EU members do not need a visa to enter Brazil.

I try not to participate in the political posts, but if Kerry gets elected there *MAY* be changes in the immigration requirements for *friendly* countries that could reduce the filing fees for Brazilians and with reciprocity reduce those for Americans entering Brazil.

Yep.

It makes some people down here feel good to engage in revanchism for the treatment Brazilians get while entering the U.S., but they don't think about the consequences to the little guys who work in tourist-related jobs. I wonder how many other people think like you do and go spend their travel dollars elsewhere?
