... in response to Yeah but, posted by Pete E on Sep 9, 2004Ha well I've been called pretty before, and I suppose at one time I easily fit in that category; less so today.
As a former-retiring pretty boy, I am not offended by Troy's resentment, but I find his blame set on Don Johnson to be silly. Does this mean I should shave, by the way?
Blaming Don Johnson (or that whole image) for setting trends would be like blaming the show Friends for the current day partner-swapping. The media (hopelessly) lags and reflects reality, it does not determine it.
Pretty boys merely have an asset that is of higher value now. With women working and having wealthy families, they select mates for different reasons than they used to. Not so long ago, wise men selected a woman for her ability to breed and hold weight (for birth), now we tend towards the opposite. Women are doing the same. You can resent it all you want, but its best to just let them have their way and play the field where you have value still.
Also, your theory that pretty boys hurt women (emotionally) more than anyone else is your own fantasy, unless you have some kind of "pretty boy study" to back it up.
In general, I agree with your sentiment...dating, even knowing american women is so boring and tedious...I think you left out the idea that they all seem (to me) neurotic, also.
Ciao
PS: I really don't want to shave.
