Hi All:

I'm considering going to the Dominican Republic for my next trip.  I went to BAQ Colombia and got burned.  It can't be that much worse than Colombia.  Plus, I am attracted to darker colored women.  I was planning to spend a month there.  Anyone have any tips for the DR?

This book contains essays about Third World women who leave home to work in the homes, nurseries and brothels of the First World.  The essays are scholarly, not polemical.

One of the essays is entitled "Selling Sex for Visas: Sex Tourism as a Stepping-stone to International Migration" and it is about Dominican sex workers in Sosua, a small town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, a popular vacation spot for male European sex tourists, especially Germans.

It is fascinating reading, as are the other essays in the book.

Sounds like an interesting read, thanks for posting it.

I bought it at a local bookstore.  Check Amazon or Barnesandnoble.com

I just received my NOA-1 for my VERY beautiful Dominicana.  She is college educated (Master's Degree) and very family oriented and marriage minded.  I can not wait to have her as my wife in the U.S.  Go to the D.R. man!  However avoid getting serious with the women at the resorts.  If you are looking for a wife, my recommendation is go into Santo Domingo.  Lots of good women there.  Peace!

Sisko,  Where did you stay in Santo Domingo?  I plan on using Latin Affairs.  Do you know of them?  What airlines did you go with?  Hey, thanks for the info.  I really appreciate it.  I went to Barranquilla and met this really nice girl, or so I thought.  She appeared to be so honest and genuine.  I Thought for sure she was legit.  However, when I got back, she was suppose to send me some paperwork for the k-1 visa.  Meanwhile, I never got the paperwork and I was sending her $120.00 a month for "English" classes.  Boy did I get taken.

dolphin,

I did not use an agency, I am a VERY lucky man.  I met a real knockout on amigos.com, and I have been with her ever since.  My first trips to the DR was my first time out of the country. She and I stayed at the resorts until we got to know each other better, and jumped over the inevitable language hurdles.  On later trips, we stayed a few times at the Hotel Melia in Santo Domingo near the shore. (Highly recommended --- GREAT nightlife, very tourist like area).  MANY gorgeous women, however you will not find a WIFE here or at the resorts.  Make FRIENDS however, ask around, ask these guys where the hangouts are, tell them EXACTLY what you are looking for they will GUIDE you!  Dominicans are very very friendly people!  The malls are also great places to meet the local women.  This is where the gold mine is --- the local women.  In the center of the city there are several historic sites devoted to Christopher Columbus.  During the day, these are great places where tourists can mix with the local people.  You would have to be dead not to find a good woman here dude.  I get in so much trouble every time my fiance and I go these places!  Brush up on your spanish, you will need it. The women are plentiful and very friendly!  Your neck will be sore from constant head turning in Santo Domingo.  Go there man --- enjoy!!!

I stayed in Boca Chica twenty minutes out of the capital.  Power outages were a problem.  Got my ATM card eaten up, not enough power to return the card.
I took a girl from Cartagena, we had a blast.  How did you get burned there?

Have you ever been to DR before?  If not, I suggest you first spend just 3-7 days on a first trip and then go for a longer period of time on a subsequent trip.  I suggest this because there are serious problems with the electricity, gas and transportation in general, and the prices of everything imported are very high.  See what the place is like and then come again better prepared.

Other than the economy, the women are generally very attractive.  Though, as others have said, the wealthier class is quite snobby, and you might find the working class a little rough around the edges.

Based on the area, expect the electricity and water to be out several hours a day.

I didn't have any problems with transportation.

Where in the DR are you planning to go?  What agency, if any, are you planning to use?

You now know the pitfalls of this business.  Things actually might be worse in the DR but with a whole month there you might be able to sort the good apples from the bad ones.
