Kiltboy,Papi and I are in Medellin at Colombian Sweethearts.
Medellin is VERY nice, unlike anything I have seen in Colombia.Everybody HERE says its safe. There is a Park, llegar?? I thinks, lots of bars and cafes, very upscale. The weather is nice if you like 75-80.Its very green, very clean.Traffic is awfull, too many cars for the little streets.
Steve runs a very proffesional operation at Colombian Sweethearts. He has 3 girls setting up appointment.BUT,there are 14 guys here, not all staying at the house.7 of us came in Wednesday. So they are a little swamped.I don,t think thats typical.
The Medellin girls are pretty, reserved.More to come after a few more citas.

“Everybody HERE says its safe.”

I guess it must be true then. LOL.

When I went to Medellin with my novia, she told me their are many dangerous areas in Medellin and wouldn’t let me out of her sight.  We also went to one of the shopping centers which was bombed to the ground by the guerillas several years ago.

Your novia may be more paranoid (and more realistic) than my wife who always assures me that Medellin is muy tranquillo. We have never had any problems but we are careful too.

yes, it appears that Pete mistakenly posted under me because we are sharing the same PC. Kilt expressed concerns to me about talking to much about MDE hear over the concerns that we dont want to see this become another Cali or San Jose so i need to give some thought before i can post on this subject. but i could probably try to email those planning a trip if info is needed

... in response to THIS IS THE REAL PAPI, posted by papi on Aug 29, 2004

Papi et al.,

I'm glad to know you have made it to Medellin. I hope that the information that I recently provided on CHS and Medellin to you may have contributed, at least in a small way, to your decision to visit Medellin. I'm disappointed to see that now that you are there, Kilt and you are censoring yourselves on Medellin, in order to prevent Medellin, a metropolitan area of 2.5 million people, "become another Cali or San Jose." Give me a break! If only we were that influential or powerful. What's the point of this forum, if not to assist eachother to make better decisions. It is selfish of you to ask about Medellin prior to your trip, and once there, limit your contributions. How many wives do you need? Exactly. So you've ventured into Medellin and CHS at a great time. Find your Paisa sweetheart and help others on this forum be merry too. I'll continue to go out of my way to answer any questions on CHS and Medellin, but I usually only log on to this forum during weekends.

Please say hi to Pete for me. Make sure you visit the Museo Botero and the shopping mall named "El Tesoro." There are dozens of upscale high-rise buildings in this area, Pete may be interested in the real estate market here. Also, very worthwhile is a trip on the metro from one end of the city to the other. Notice the "Caribe" station neighborhood which is in sharp contrast to other parts of Medellin, in reminded me of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro. I believe it is Calle 44 that rocks every night and is full of more moderately priced bars and discos. Also, you've noticed the hotel Nutibara downtown. A few blocks from this place, is Hotel Botero Plaza (formerly named Amaru) on Cra 50, No53-45. It is a decent place in the heart of the city, although some would say in an area that is a bit dangerous. I stayed here too, and found it to be a great value. You might want to check it out for extended stays in Medellin. Of course, the Dann Carlton is on a different league and great value too.

I look forward to your extensive and detailed reports. Smiley

THIS IS PAPI AND I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT. IT IS JUST THAT THINGS GOT SO MESSED UP IN SAN JOSE AND CALI BECAUSE ROOKIE GRINGOS GO THERE AND THROW A LOT OF MONEY AROUND. NEXT THING YOU KNOW - PRICES GO UP AND THE WOMAN GET SPOILED. BUT I WILL TELL YOU THIS...I WAISTED A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY TRAVELING IN LA BY NOT PREVIOUSLY VISITING MDE. I THINK I FOUND MY 1/2 NARANJA - WE ARE FLYING TO SAN ANDRES TUES. IF THINGS DONT WORK OUT THE ONLY PLACE I´D EVER CONSIDER AGAIN IN LA IS MDE.

You can tell us, it will be your secret. We won't tell anyone.

Hey I couldn't resist; I'm just messing with you, I appreciate your input on my posts.

However; I am understanding this post as it is a "hot spot", and if things don't work out for me in Venezuela, I am Colombia all the way!

Only because it makes me want to be back in Medellin enjoying the sights and sounds. Great to hear that you are enjoying the city. You will not find a better wife than you can in Medellin. I know because I have one.

[This message has been edited by zack]

About a year ago someone did a post about his one week visit to Medellin. I don't recall who it was. He visited several agencies and stated that he felt like he was the "only gringo in town." If what he said is true, then times are changing pretty fast. Sounds like the myth that Medellin is too dangerous to visit is fading quickly. In fact, I have never been to an agency that had anything near 14 gringos at one time.

That's incredible. It must be some kind of record. I have never even seen another gringo on my five trips to Medellin.
