Why are Latinos better basketball players than gringos?

Dream Team?  More like The Bad Dream Team.  And they didn't even loose to Argentina or Brazil.  They lost to a little island.  We should go ahead and make Puerto Rico the 51st state so that maybe we can win a medal.

My only guess is The Bad Dream Team got upset when they found out they weren't going to get paid.

This is more like Dream Players not a Dream "Team"
Almost all the players on this team have the same game. All quick slashers who are dominant one on one. They dont have any specialists. Like a tough rebounder, outside shooter etc.. combine this with the fact that they havent played together long and its hard to blame them for not playing well. In fact I think that if you took any of the top NBA teams (Pistons, Kings etc..) they would do much better because they have players who fill specific roles and have played together for awhile.
P.S. Does Colombia have ANYone in the Olympics? My wife says no but I find that hard to believe.

Colombia does have an Olympic team.  Here is their website:

Here is a gallery of photos:

The girl in the red Pony Malta shirt deserves some kind of medal.

In 2000 Isabel Urrutia became the first Colombian to win an Olympic Gold medal in Sydney in weightlifting.

I thought there was mens soccer again this year, but I only see women's soccer.  That doesn't make much sense.  It's the most popular sport in the world and the IOC dropped it.

Right you are.  It wasn't listed on Yahoo's sports, but I found a link here:

The US and Colombia did not qualify.  From Latin America we have Mexico, Costa Rica, Paraguay, and Argentina.  Argentina almost beat Brazil in the Copa America.  Maybe they can win a medal.

The Argentinians in the office next door are still crying about the Copa America. How in the world did Costa Rica qualify for Athens? They were beat up pretty good in Copa America.

And to me the bigger question is "Where is Brazil?"  maybe their good players aren't interested in the Olympics.

Please take into consideration that the US team beat the same Puerto Rico 5 times in the previous 3 weeks in exhibition games before the olympics started.  They just got lucky and the US are not yet playing like a team yet.  It is definately a wake up call.  But I suspect they will still win gold.  We will see if I'll be eating my words...

My point is that the USA is supposed to totally dominate Olympic basketball, especially with their professionals.  Our professionals loosing to Puerto Rico by 19 points was a humiliation of the first magnitude.  This "Dream Team" is a disgrace.

Here is the offical USA Olympic basketball team website:

http://www.usabasketball.com/history/moly_2000.html

On the right-hand side are the USA Olympic basketball team records by year:

Amateurs
--------
1936: 8-0
1948: 8-0
1952: 8-0
1956: 8-0
1960: 8-0
1964: 9-0
1968: 9-0
1972: 8-1 (controversial win by USSR)
1976: 7-0
1980: 0-0 (boycotted Moscow Olympics)
1984: 8-0
1988: 7-1 (loss to USSR)

Professionals
-------------
1992: 8-0 (the real Dream Team)
1996: 8-0
2000: 8-0
