I read about this service Vonage that uses your high internet
to give you telephone service. What I am wondering is how is
this service for long distance to Colombia? The phone card I
have been using is terrible and I have dropped it. It use to be
very good but one day it started causing me problems at night
where I could not connect then it started all the time.

I actually use a vonage phone in reverse. I hooked the phone up to my DSL in the DR. That way my novia can call me any time and it is included in the 30 bucks per month. Also now when I call her it is a LOCAL call. Even if I didn't already have DSL it would be well worth it to get DSL to save all that money on calling cards.

So. . . I pay 40 bucks for DSL in the DR and 30 bucks for vonage phone service as opposed to 400 or more per month on calling cards!

try this calling card, it also has online records immediately after you make a call.

I have been using Vonage for a year. You can use Vonage without a computer hookup- all you need is the broadband connection(DSL or Cable) and the little adapter they send you.In my case I plug the Vonage adapter into one of the Cat5 ethernet jack slots in my router, which is in turn hooked directly to my cable modem. The nice thing is you can take that adapter anywhere in the world that has a broadband connection and hook it up and it will be the same as dialing from home. In addition, features and phone numbers are very easy to ad or change. If you live in LA but want a NY number, no problem. I have found their live 24 hour customer support to be excellent. You do not need any special equipment other than a broadband connection and the little adapter they send you. Any regular phone will plug into the adapter. The only problems I have had have been related to my Comcast service through which the voice over IP is routed, but those were not too bad.

No, it will work anywhere in the world where there is a broadband connection: DSL, cable or satellite. Isn't technology wonderful? ;-)

I have been using Vonage for about 7 months over a cable internet connection. It was great during the day, weekday nights were OK and weekends were not good at night. If your girlfriend has a broadband connection, you can buy a phone for her too, and then you can both call each other. I've also been using Pennytalk on my cell, but over the past 2 weeks it has started to drop my calls every 10-15 minutes.

Have you been using it to call Colombia? If you have Vonage are you able to
use a calling card if you cannot connect to where ever you are calling?

I was calling Peru. I use Penny Talk when I can't use Vonage, but it has recently deteriorated and I need to find another service.
