Normally you have to have a Colombian visa to get married there - yes, there are some notaries that will marry you without it but it's not that big a deal to get it. Go to any of the Colombian consulate web sites on the web - preferably the one that handles your area of the US. The US embassy in Bogota has an excellent web site that gives the run down on marrying a Colombian - much useful info.

You don't need a lawyer to help with a visa unless you are mentally retarded.  My ex-Colombian wife told me this and it's one of the few things she was right about.

You can get a list of forms you need ferom BCIS here or from the American Embassy in Bogota.  Lots of documents need to be gathered and you will be quized to determine if your relationship is genuine.

There are a lot of documents needed which they list.  You need proof you are single and all the papers from every divorce, birth certificate, proof of income (1040's for last three years, pay stubs).  Just figure out what you need well before you leave, get it and tell her what she needs to get before your trip, and fill out the forms carefully.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to fill out the forms or to gather the documents but there are a lot of things to get and details to be careful about.

Mas o menos but go to the website or call them and have them send you an exact list.  Nothing involved is complicated or difficult but there are a myriad of details and you need their document to be sure you don't miss anything.

The last step is getting a lung x-ray and AIDS test (everyone over 16), police clearance that they are not criminals (over 16), vacines (everyone) and a doctor's exam (all).

The embassy has a list of approved places to get these services performed (only 2 or 3 in the entire city of Bogota for example) along with prices.  Many details and each one is a deal breaker.  You don't need an attorney but you do need to be well organized and detail oriented.
