Martina Navratilova lost in the French Open today to Argentinian Gisela Dulko ending her comeback attempt at age 47.  My guess is that this photo shows Martina's favorite moment of the day:

(For those of you too young to remember, Martina likes the ladies.)

Heat:

Martina Navratilova was maybe the greatest female tennis player of all time, certainly in the top 2 or 3, and inspired a generation of women tennis players including Martina Hingis ( a dominant player herself at 16 and 17)who was named aftter her. Anyone name any babies after you for your long list of accomplishments?

She won 8 Wimbledon singles championships, she holds the record for combined grand slam championships, she won more tennis tournaments then any other woman in history

She had the courage to defect from Czechoslokia, she became an American citizen, she is an astue and wealthy business woman,  and although I don't agree with lesbianism as a lifestyle, she has the courage to live life her way and came out long before it was in fashion.
And she is still trying to excel at 47, an age when many of both sexes have settled into mediocrity.

What are they going to put on your grave?

Here lies Heat, who never could say something nice about another human being.

It may be hard for you but show a little class.

Burbuja

Now, I get it.  "The ball's in your court".  That's pretty funny.  I was not paying attention when I first saw that.

My posts are exclusively geared to the more intelligent members of the Board, such as yourself.  By the way, you are to be congratulated on your self-taught mastery of Spanish.  You are indeed a fine example of the axiom, "Losers let it happen, winners make it happen."  To the other Board members, all I can say is take charge of your life, accept resposibility, and make it happen.

Thank you, Burbuja, but I can't take all the credit.  If those supportive Latinas hadn't helped me practice I never would've mastered their tongue, or their language either, for that matter.

Wow, you might show some class by not trashing me for joking around.  Do you know me? No.

I have no problem with her and her as a homosexual.  I guess you could use some class lessions.

People with class do'nt let their emotions run wild.

Calm down and relax.

Heat:
This is a forum and if people post enough they reveal their personalities and beliefs, and you found mine.  Yep, I am a flawed man, and one of my biggest failings is that I become a real pain in the ass when people label others with demeaning titles. I get ballistic when people use labels like kike, spic, nigger or bull dyke, to me, its not "joking around," I see it as prejudice and think prejudice is a waste of perfectly good brain cells.

And I admit I got off on a tear writing about Martina, I just loved watching her play, I used to live in New York and saw her play live in the US Open several tmes. She was as good as Willie Mays on a baseball diamond or Michael Jordan on a hoops court.

We're both big boys and we're not going to lose any sleep, no blood, no bones showing, lets just move on.

Have a good day

First let’s clear something up.  I’m not politically correct.  But using the word dike does not make me or the message hateful.  I read the  intent in your second message.  By using  code words such as nigger you try to link racism to “homophobia” .  And paint me with the same brush.  You failed.

So is M+M a racist because he uses the word nigger?  Are the Atlanta Braves racist for their name?
Where do folks like you stop?

I have a daughter who I adopted from Guatemala.  She is Indian.  She’s brown and looks beautifully like many of the women in Latin America.  She came from a town without lights or water on the side of a mountain. She had no future.  Now she is in a program for gifted kids.

I understand better than you what is racism and what is not.   What you do is react to ANY perceived slight against any perceived “victim” and come as a rescuer of the downtrodden.  This is classic  for folks who feel the need to prove they caring and helpful people.  But it’s like cheap candy to a hungry man.  It’s sweet for the moment but nobody real get any real nutrients out of it.

May I suggest you put your money where your mouth is and really help some poor person or pick up a rifle and really fight for freedom and liberty in Iraq.  Or adopted a child and teach the American way of rugged independence

People  invented Affirmative Action and PC not to help anyone but to create victims and rescuers.  With which they gain power.

I am teaching my daughters to reject it and people who are PC.   To stand on their own abilities.  And to laugh at both the racist and the rescuer.  Because both want something from them.

The world needs real men  and women who are not full of “feeling” but full of hope and action.

Get out form behind your keyboard and really come to the rescue of somebody.

Excuse me your Arrogance. I appreciate the fact that you are saving the poor and helpless "colored people" of the world. I think the U.S. adventure in Iraq exemplifies your mindset to the extreme. If necessary, the U.S. will kill the Iraqis in order to save them. That being said, as a Black man who is a United States citizen, the use of the words nigger, dike, gook, sand nigger, spic, jap, and kike offend me. It does not matter whether one of the M & M candies uses the derogatory terms or the rap singer Eminem.

I regularly visit the Forum. I enjoy reading and learning from the experiences of the men who seek Latinas for soul mates. I know that the majority of the writers in the Forum are White American males. Many of my White brothers provide tremendous insight to not only dating and marriage, but to life.

Unfortunately, racism and sexism (as in the greater society) often surface in the Forum. For instance, I take exception to your denouncement of all who seek a balanced playing field (a/k/a affirmative action). It is amazing that White men who have benefited their entire lives from what I describe as "super affirmative action", attack programs that do not guarantee them 99% of the top educational, employment, or business opportunities.

My alma mater, the University of Michigan, last year vigorously fought for its affirmative action programs all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. As a lawyer with two law degrees (JD and LLM) and a MBA, I have applied myself throughout life. Nevertheless, I attribute my success in part to the affirmative action programs that partially opened doors for Black, Brown, and other people of color.

Another racist mindset that is also disturbing in the Forum is the new twist on an old saying that some Whites used to cloak White bigotry. Remember the saying, "I am not prejudice, some of best friends are colored people." "White superiority" and "Black inferiority" are the legacy of the extermination, kidnapping, bondage, and colonial/imperial domination of the planet's people of color by Whites for the last 500 years. In addition, these superiority and inferiority complexes represent a sickness that infects the entire world.

Do you think dating a Latina or adopting "Brown children" alone cures you of the sickness of White superiority? Your proclamation that you are not "politically correct" and that you do not have difficulty with racist and sexist epithets speaks volumes in terms of your true ideology. Apparently, the inclusion of "Brown people" in your life has not significantly increased your level of racial tolerance and understanding. Your views, at best, are contradictory and hypocritical.

Following this same line of thought, a Black man can not expect to date or marry a White woman and expect to rid himself of the Black inferiority that is daily projected on television, radio, in print, and the movies in the United States. As I stated, the sickness of White racism and superiority knows no borders. Whenever I travel outside the U.S., I often encounter demeaning and racist depictions of people of color in general, and Black people in particular. It does not matter whether I am in Asia, Africa, Latin America or Europe; White racism is pervasive.

In closing, I believe that once we all can come out of the clouds as to our true attitudes on race and power, the sooner we can embark upon a path of true healing, greater understanding, and compassion.

Peace

I tend to agree with most of your opinions. But I hate affirmative action. What a clever term that avoids what it is,reverse racism.
As a young liberal in the 60's I was all for equal opportunuity.I agreed totally with Martin Luther Kings speech, judging his children by the content of their characters, not the color of their skin. Then, the whole idea ,the PRINCIPLE of equal opportunity gets turned on its head to benefit people who are supposedly disadvantaged, the evidence of which being the color of their skin.I was floored, flabergasted. How could people who had argued equality of opportunity approve a racial prefference system?
To me they gave up the principle entirely and just went for the goodies.
First,I think we need to call it what is is,by definition and application, racial discrimination. Then we can argue about wether it is justified. And it pissed me off no end to see employers advertising,"we are an equal opportunity affirmative action employer."Thats a contradiction of terms,a lie.You cannot have both, even if you would like to.
However,I do not blame any individual for taking advantage of the system he is offered. Its human nature, self preservation to do so.But do you ever wonder,of those people with better grades and better test scores that you got to crowd in front of,if perhaps amoung them were people more disadvantaged themselves?I presume you are competent at what you do.But did you see incompetent students taking advantage of this system, maybe being promoted all the way through, with credentials that say they have competence but in fact do not?
Someone mentioned Asians.I have great respect for Asians in General. Many have come to this country not only looking different but not speaking the language and not knowing the culture. And done tremendously well.Without any prefferences, actually having prefferences used against them.
What a great American success story. We need to learn from them instead of discriminating against them. What they have, more than anything in my opinion is a very strong family system that demands the BEST from their kids, and they tend to deliver.
Many of our "disadvantaged" really are disadvantaged, not by the color of their skin but by the attitudes of the families they belong to.
I saw a 60 miniuted segment several years ago.A young black woman was being interviewed. She was about 21,with 2 kids. She was obviously bright. She claimed no responsibilty for her situation, having accepted a mentally ill person  to father her children, but claiming she didn't know.Who should know if not her?She was saying the only job she could get was fliping hamburgers but that didn't cut it because it would not provide enough money to support the little family she chose to start. So she said she thought society owed it to her to send her to college to get an education. She said she wanted to get a PHD.My first thought was at least this woman has some ambition. My second thought was hold it,how about the millions of people who are flipping burgers and doing other menial jobs who will be paying for her to get an education,My other thought was what would that PHD be in,business?I doubt it ,some social science type program that perpetuates the idea of poor me and ain't it awfull probably. She might become a proffesional victimologist, helping other people get all they can get for as little as they can get by with,at the expense of the rest of us.
Immigration gets talked about here alot.I have great respect for immigrants, even illegal ones who come here and are willing to work. They have no other choice but to work.
California had a Black woman who was the head of the state welfare system a few years ago.She had done alot of menial jobs but had never accepted welfare, even though she qualified. She was very much for people on welfare getting a job.She was told there were no jobs for them. She says just look at our immigrants, they find jobs.I know some Mexicans with 2 and 3 jobs.My gardiner I used to hire had been here 10 years. His wife cleanes houses. They were able to buy 3 houses in Silicon Valley. They couldn't speak english at all when they came.I guess they didn't know they werre disadvantaged.
I would like to do a little exchange student program, trading our welfare cases for people from a poor village in Mexico.
Welcome to the list.I agree with you alot. And I HATE affirmative action.

[This message has been edited by burbuja2]

Thank you Cybear. You have proved my point, as eloquently stated in my post, infra. You see, the problem with affirmative action is that it assumes that race corresponds with lack of opportunity.  For example, the son of a black professional basketball player or doctor or whatever is assumed to be disadavataged but the son of a white unemployed coal miner in Appalachia must be sacrificed on the alter of political correctness to appease the propagators of identity politics.
The rest of your post is simply name-calling, predictible and inane.  Lets cut to the chase.  Your position is simply that any white who disagrees with you is a racist and there is no act that individual can do to remove the original sin of having been born white. This brings up the interesting question as to who is really the racist, now doesn't it?
You obviously revel in your manufactured victimhood, rather than accepting responsibility for deficiencies which have shifted our focus away from equality of opportunity to equality of result.  And why not?  I can understand that its so much easier for you to blame a burgeoning illegitimate birth rate, violent crime and educational failures all on white racism rather than performing the most cursory of introspective assessments.
So, congratulations on your MBA and your JD from the Univ. of Mich..  You now have the best of both worlds.  You have benefited by being black while at the same time you can complain about all the "racism" which swirls around you.  Nice going, 'bro.  One day, perhaps that child from Appalachia will understand.

Dear Cybear

I get this far in your post and stopped:

"It is amazing that White men who have benefited their entire lives from what I describe as "super affirmative action", attack programs that do not guarantee them 99% of the top educational, employment, or business opportunities."

What a racist distortion of reality.

Can't we talk about women.  This is my thread and I don't want any more of this BASURA.
