Ok Greggy, I will explain what has clearly gone over your head.

"I rest my case", means your own idiocy leaves me no reason to comment on your responses. They are prima facia evidence of your own ignorance and imaturity. In other words, your own words illustrate how really stupid and childish you are.  I know it is not your fault and for this reason I chose to use the four word response which meant a lot of things without describing them exactly.  Really, you are way over your head and the more you say the less intelligent you sound. If anyone here reminds me of a childish troll it is you. I can't really believe your responses and verbally beating on you is totally unfair. I would feel too guilty and you would not comprehend my drift anyway. So go back to the asian board where there may be a woman who will marry you goofy or not.jimc

It seems to me the only one whining and crying about my wife not learning English was you. No tale of woe from me, I can speak Spanish. And the day is not too far off when you may have to as well, Burbuja2. Of course I should not assume that you can't speak Spanish but all your worry about whether or not a person can speak English makes me think it's a concern for you. Otherwise who cares what language a person speaks? You can go to school, get a job and a driver's license here in Texas without speaking a word of English.

I'm glad you're able to communicate and I, too, have an English degree and a law degree, so I'm in much the same place as you.  I wouldn't say I have a misconception about these relationships, I simply relate lack of communication to an inability to form a lasting and meaningful relationship.  I also harken back to a time when I was in South Korea and trying to date there.  I spoke almost no Korean and one woman I dated spoke basic English, but inevitably we had the same conversation every time we talked, whether on the phone or in person.  In your case you appear to have more than a basic connection and appear able to communicate effectively, even given your limited Spanish and your wife's lack of English.  Good for you!

I still say that a less educated woman will have a narrow world view and will not understand some of the things that, fundamentally, I do.  I would prefer not to have to explain to someone who Hemingway is or Shakespeare or why Bastille Day is important in France.  Education provides a broad base of learning and allows us all to develop knowledge about history, society, culture, literature, music, sociology, and more and without at least a basic knowledge of the liberal arts and the world outside the confines of our respective villages or cities, I see that as very limiting.  Even though I don't spend each day intellectualizing the world and most conversations at home would necessarily be mundane and not about philosophy or Marxist economics, when the high point of someone's life is the Friday night lineup on NBC, I really have nothing to say to them.

Very good response! For a while I was corresponding with a Chinese woman whose English was very limited. I was not about to start learning Chinese, too much even for me. So I felt the same way that you did - we kept having these simple little conversations over and over again. I had to ask myself what it was I really wanted, a beautiful woman to have sex with but little else or something more? You are quite right. You may be able to find what you are looking for among the educated classes of Colombian woman. Unfortunately many of them will be widows or divorced with children and for most men, out of the question. Buena suerte!
