I remember a few posts on departure tax from Cali and how to get forms at the airport on arrival to avoid them.  Can this be done in Bogota also?  I'll be Bogota next week, Cali the week after, though my return flight is out of Bogota. Any help will be appreciated.

AFTER YOU GET OFF THE AIRPLANE YOU WILL WALK DOWN A
WALKWAY RAMP AND THEN THROUGH A LONG CORRIDOR TO THE IMMIGRATION ROOM, WHERE YOU WILL PROBABLY SEE THREE OR FOUR LINES OPEN, SO JUST GET IN ONE OF THEM. THEY WILL ASK WHERE YOU ARE STAYING, AND FOR HOW LONG IN COLOMBIA. AFTER YOU CLEAR IMMIGRATION AND THEY STAMP YOUR PASSPORT, YOU WILL TURN RIGHT AND GO THROUGH A HALLWAY (30 FEET LONG)TO THE LUGGAGE AREA.  IN THE HALLWAY THERE IS ALSO A MEN'S AND LADIES RESTROOM.  ONCE IN THE LUGGAGE AREA, LOOK FOR THE DESK WHERE YOU CAN GET A RECEIPT FOR YOUR DEPARTURE TAX.  THE DESK WAS TO YOUR LEFT AT THE END OF THE HALLWAY ON YOUR WAY TO THE LUGGAGE AREA, BUT IT HAS BEEN MOVED.  I THINK IT IS TO THE RIGHT AS YOU ENTER THE LUGGAGE AREA.  IN THE PAST DURING THE LATER FLIGHT ARRIVALS, THE DESK IS CLOSED (AFTER 9:30 IT SEEMS). IN ANY CASE IT USUALLY TAKES 15 MINUTES OR SO TO GET YOUR LUGGAGE. YOU THEN WILL GET IN ONE OF THE EXIT LINES.  AS YOU GET IN LINE ONE OF THE SECURITY PEOPLE WILL WANT TO SEE YOUR LUGGAGE STUB ON YOUR TICKET FOLDER, TO MATCH YOUR LUGGAGE,SO HAVE IT OUT.  NOW THAT YOU ARE IN LINE, AT THE EXIT DOOR YOU WILL PUSH A TRAFFIC BUTTON, WHICH WILL BE GREEN OR RED,TO SEE IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR LUGGAGE INSPECTED. IF IT IS GREEN YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY, IF RED YOU WILL PROCEED THROUGH THE DOOR, AND TO YOUR LEFT THE CUSTOMS PEOPLE WILL INSPECT YOUR LUGGAGE.
AS YOU WALK OUT FROM CUSTOMS,ETC.  YOU WILL SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE STANDING OUTSIDE THE GLASSED IN AREA YOU ARE STILL IN. (THESE ARE FAMILY , FRIENDS ETC WAITING FOR PAXS, AND AT TIMES THERE WILL BE A 100 PEOPLE OR MORE OUT THERE.)
IF YOU HAVE ARRANGED TRANSPORTATION, LOOK FOR A SIGN WITH YOUR NAME ON IT.  THE HOTELS WILL ARRANGE TRANSPORTATION IF YOU WANT, AND I SUGGEST YOU DO.
IF YOU DID NOT GET THE RECEIPT FOR YOUR DEPARTURE TAX ON ARRIVAL, WHEN YOU GO TO THE AIRPORT TO LEAVE, THE TAX DESK IS TO YOUR LEFT AS YOU ENTER THE INTL TERMINAL, I THINK ACROSS FROM THE AMERICAN AIRLINES COUNTER.  THAT USUALLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES, AS THERE ARE USUALLY PEOPLE IN LINE.  YOU THEN GO TO THE AIRLINE COUNTER FOR WHATEVER AIRLINE YOU ARE ON.  ONCE THERE, EVENTUALLY YOU WILL PAY YOUR DEPARTURE TAX TO THE AIRLINE.  JUST REMEMBER, DO NOT GET IN LINE AT THE AIRLINE UNTIL YOU HAVE THE DEPARTURE TAX RECEIPT IN YOUR HAND, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN. IT IS ABOUT 25 30 DOLLARS I THINK. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I just returned from Bogota two weeks ago and then was there in November.   Both times my tax was $28.

I departed from Bogota using TACA (Bogota, San Jose, Costa Rica to LAX) and was charged $28 U.S.. This was after I went to the Tax Exemption Desk and my paper was stamped, otherwise it would have been around $45 U.S.. It took about 5 minutes.

Upon arrival go to the kiosk near customs with a DAS sign and show them your passport and get an exemption. It will cut in half what you have to pay. The last time I was there they wouldn't give me the exemption because I was traveling on a temporary visa. I ended up paying 122,000 pesos upon departure, about $44. If you fly American they charge you the tax when you buy your ticket.

Thanks, I appreciate all the posts.  I'll be flying in from Atlanta on Delta, I don't know if it is included in my ticket or not.  I'll check with my travel agent.

Please post that info when you find it, since Delta is a newcomer I haven't heard specifically the deal on them.  American - included, Avianca not.  It makes it difficult to compare airfare since that tax can be substantial.  I suspect American began to include it because it saves alot of time at the checkin (in Cali anyway) when they don't have to process that fee.
