I use Direct TV. I think, I pay about 142,000 a month. I think, becasue I have someone who pays my bils for me, so I hardly ever see the bill.
The Superbowl on ESPN. Actually this time you saw a little more than you have the last couple of years. We got the feed that went to England. So, the whole show you got Football 101. Moose Johnson explained why you should punt on 4th down when it's "only" 4th and inches on your own 30. Or, when you kick a field goal from past 40 yards it's only two points. I guess, in the World League it's 3 points past the 40. The announcers were giving lessons in football to an audience that doesn't really understand the game. It was kind of annoying, but it was OK, I guess. Then the commercials. We didn't get the American commercials, but we got the commercials from Mexico. They were just regular restaurant and car commercials, but I would like to have seen the Donkey who wanted to be a Clysdale or the ugly little dog who knew how to fetch a Bud. The reason I bring up commercials is the last couple of years all you saw was a Direct TV static advertisment. No commercials, no nothing just this placard that said Direct TV during commercials. After the commercial was over, the game came back on. So, this year was an improvement. Also, this year we got to see at least a little of the halftime show. No, I didn't see the Janet Jackson "malfunction" but I saw it on the Internet. We also got to se the singing of the National anthem. Once again, something else you didn't see before. All in all, it was a total improvement than the last couple of years. FOX Sports even had a simulcast in Spanish, so everyone got to see this game.
The NFL PASS on Direct TV is 9,000 pesos for the season. 14 games every Sunday and that package includes the Playoffs.
A cool note, Direct TV also has the Retro Channel. War of the Worlds was on the other day and I thought sure it was going to be in Spanish but to my delight it was in English. Still a great movie. Things like the original Star Trek series is in Spanish. Although, the translations arepretty good, sometimes you have to roll your eyes and wonder if the translator heard the same thing you heard.
We also get CNN International, but during the week, it's mostly Inside Africa, Asia today, or Financial news. A night you can watch Larry King, but there isn't Headline News until the weekend. Obviously, if something big happens, like 9/11, all other shows are interrupted. We also have access to BBC if you want a different perspective. Watch the BBC comedy, "House of Commons" if you ever get a chance. The star of that show is Tony Blair. It'll crack you up if you have never seen it before.
New Shows. We do get CSI Miami, 8 Simple Rules (post John Ritter), Scrubs, Enterprise, Andromeda, Monk, etc. But, they are all a season or two behind what is being shown in the States. Shows like 3rd Rock from the Sun, NewsRadio, Cybil, and other show that have been off the air for awhile in the States are reguarly shown here.
I have HBO and Cinemax. Cool, HBO has Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. (I'm a Kevin Smith Fan.) I also like Ed Wood on Cinemax. Although, there are some pretty good selections on both these channels, they play the same ones over and over again for months. I know what you are thinking, they do the same thing in the States. I know, but add about 100% more to that and you get the idea how much they play the same movies here.
Ok well, there's a report from the front.
