Well my money is on steves version.
Just for the record it was the name of a character "Bobo the Clown" who was a serial murder of women in an older movie set.

Looks like you're right.  The Yahoo Spanish Dictionary says:

bobo

...as always, context makes a huge difference: it can also be a meaningless term of endearment. Who said it to you, and under what circumstances?
