Hi IS, congratulations on the baby!!!

Quick question for you. I remember that your wife got sick and that you didn’t have health insurance for her yet when she arrived, was she already your wife, or was she still on a visa?

Reason im asking is, what happens when a guy brings a girl here on a fiancée visa, and for whatever reason, she gets sick and has to go to the hospital? Does the government take care of it, or are you responsible for the bills, because you are the petitioner on the visa? i checked with my insurance provider, they will not insure a person unless she is your wife, so i am assuming that between when she arrives, and the day you get married, your just "floating in the wind" and hope nothing happens, or am i wrong?Huh?

Primary coverage could hopefully be under her Peru health insurance policy if she keeps paying the premiums as emergency overseas coverage is probably included in her policy. If a no go, she could purchase a short term health ins policy here available from one to six months, although more difficult to find if not a US citizen.
So don't leave us hanging like that. Who is the lucky girl or are you just theorizing.

I was married when my wife got sick.  I had been insured under a group plan through work but they dropped health insurance for the whole company, so when my wife got sick I was responsible.  It would be different under a fiancee visa. While you might sign something that says you will be financially responsible for your fiancee, that is between you and immigration but it will not be enforced by a collection agency or affect your credit.
