... in response to Jeez, how do you stump this guy?, posted by Jimbo on Aug 6, 2001

Hi Jim,

My friend Terry started a DJ business some years back. We started out about equal, now he puts me to shame. The weirder the lyrics, the better I remember them. This is one of my favorite songs. The co-writer's brother was married to a Filipina and had two sons.

"A diamond necklace played the pawn
Hand in hand some drummed along, oh
To a handsome man and baton
A blind class aristocracy
Back through the opera glass you see
The pit and the pendulum drawn
Columnated ruins domino

Canvass the town and brush the backdrop
Are you sleeping?

Hung velvet overtaken me
Dim chandelier awaken me
To a song dissolved in the dawn
The music hall a costly bow
The music all is lost for now
To a muted trumperter swan
Columnated ruins domino

Canvass the town and brush the backdrop
Are you sleeping, Brother John?

Dove nested towers the hour was
Strike the street quicksilver moon
Carriage across the fog
Two-Step to lamp lights cellar tune
The laughs come hard in Auld Lang Syne

The glass was raised, the fired rose
The fullness of the wine, the dim last toasting
While at port adieu or die

A choke of grief heart hardened I
Beyond belief a broken man too tough to cry..."

Can't do give away anymore, as the title is in the next verse. ;o)))

Hi Jeff,

"Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer. About the only disco I would ever listen to was the BeeGees and Donna Summer. "Hot Stuff" was also in the film "The Full Monty" which cracks me up every time I watch it.

My song was "Surf's Up" by Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and Van Dyke Parks.

I would hate to think that there were any drugs involve in writing this song. %-) Final verse of "Surf's Up:"

"Surf's Up
Aboard a tidal wave
Come about hard and join
The young and often spring you gave
I heard the word
Wonderful thing
A children's song

Child, child, child, child, child
A child is the father of the man...."

Carl Wilson was married to Filipina Annie Hinsche, who was born in Manila. They had two sons. Her father was a wealthy casino owner. They moved to Beverly Hills when she was 5. Her brother was in the 60's rock trio Dino, Desi, and Billy. (Dino Martin Jr., Desi Arnaz, Jr., and Billy Hinsche).

Ha-ha!.

As soon as I saw that, I thought of the Beatles' tune "I Am the Walrus".  But come to think of it, I think the lyrics say "Goo-goo-ga-joob".

Hi Thomas,

I think you have overlooked a very important fact. Your neighbor is an "older man who used to approve navy marriages." Where do you suppose most of these men met these women? Sailors don't meet too many women by traveling around the country side. You got it...in the bars and clubs while in port. What type of women frequent these areas to earn a living? Many were undoubtably prostitutes. Perhaps some made good wives. I have had several friends in the Navy marry their European "sweethearts."  Same story, different race.

Your neighbor probably meant well, but he doesn't have all the facts or see the "big" picture. I certainly wouldn't base my life on one person's opinion.

STEPHEN:

Yeah...but some folks aren't good at math!  (LOL)

Say, Outwest...do you ever have any contact with a lady that was last on this board about Christmas I believe.  Her name was Maria Cristina.  She moved to Las Cruses.  I lost contact with her about 4 months back.  She was a nice lady to talk with.

Have you heard from her?
