Yep, sometimes El Gringo Grande does the right thing, but usually there are some of strings attached. The US signed long term leases on military bases.

As far as US annexation, Jim has pointed out to me that after the Spanish-American War, there were ships of several other world powers waiting to carve up the Philippines. Through US annexation, the Philippines remained a single nation until it eventually gained it's independence.

I did not realize that the guerilla war continued into the mid 20's. I knew that battles with Moros continued for some time (still). As you may recall the Colt .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol was developed to stop the unstoppable Moros. They had never been conquered by the Spanish. The Colt .45 is once again gaining popularity in the Philippines. But this time its stopping power is in the form of an alcoholic beverage. I had a hard time convincing several Filipinos that the San Miguel was better than the "imported" stuff. ;o))

Man, mix up some Boone's Farm Strawberry, MD 20/20 and some Vanilla Hagen Daas, that's makes a MAD DOG FLOAT. It tastes almost as good a Beer and Cheerios. And I don't have white sheets at home, because you can see the dirt, dark sheets are better, they last longer, like black socks.
