Pete, I just don't understand the looks thing you harp on so much.  You need to understand I am 6 feet tall and weight 275 pounds and have a beautiful wife who tells me I am "lindo" constantly.  I admit my wife is not the top 1% of the Colombianas beautiful, but definitely beautiful even against other Colombianas, and compared to women I could get in the states, well not even a close race.  I don't understand why you think you have to change your appearance to succeed.  Perhaps the beard thing is a point, particularly since you are in Colombia, but the rest of your points just don't make sense to me.

Bruce,
If I was getting all the attention I want from a woman I wanted it from I could be happy with my old beard look. But it seems a liability.
And you are a lucky man to have found the woman you did.
Reminds me of a sign one of my co workers used to have over his desk. "No amount of planning can beat dumb luck."
Not that you don't deserve to be lucky.
But others say we make our own luck which is also true, setting up the conditions under which we can get lucky,as in going to Colombia.

Pete - Shave the beard, color your hair, lose a few pounds, dress well, learn the language, some of the dances, whatever...but liposuction and plastic surgery??? You're gonna be 61 soon and cannot turn back the clock on aging or gravity. You don't want to end up looking like one of those Palm Beach, FL or La Jolla, CA matrons with stretched, unnatural, ghastly faces!

No one really turns back the clock but you can improve yourself in creative and not dangerous ways. But I wouldn't do anything to get a permanent look plastered on my face like Cher.
Its just a choice. If I was getting all the attention I want from the kind of girl I want I probably wouldn't be thinking about it.
Maybe I just need to meet more girls untill I find that mutual attraction.

Just a thought of Michael Jackson could make you forget the whole thing.
Even as recently as his triller album he was still a good looking, although modified, black kid.Now he looks like a freak.
OK,joke, but I already blew the punch line.
I saw a black comediane one time. She said her father was a preacher. He would get up and say:
"God is not white.God is not black.God is not a man.God is not a woman."
She says,"Daddy,is God Michael Jackson?"

I saw Donna Brazil,Democraic stratagist and former Clinton campain manager,on a talk show. The subject of Michael Jackson came up.She said " I didn't know Michael Jackson was black again."

You're right, it's a choice. But sometimes people get on a perfectionist treadmill with cosmetic surgery and they're never happy because there's always one little additional procedure they think would help things.

Find a place to live, invest in the Col. economy (stock mkt's been doing well)...

Pete,
If you have to have facial hair, grow a goatee. It is considered a bit hipper than a full beard, and if trimmed correctly can be flatterring.Don't do it yourself though, go to a barber to have it clipped just right.Latino barbers are great at those sort of things.
I applaud you for doing all you can to make yourself look and feel better. How you feel about your physical appearance will have a lot to do with your confidence and success.
I left a suggestion for you under "JLSlo, we're not all stupid". I think you should pick up where Batman left off. Please read the post!
